About Unbox Commerce
Unbox Commerce is the AI platform global brands use to run social commerce at scale - the infrastructure behind selling on platforms like TikTok Shop and Youtube Shopping.
The company was founded 18 months ago by Hugo Soul and Michael Coombs, both alumni of TikTok Shop's global commercial team. They kept encountering the same problem: the playbook that made social commerce explode across Asia does not translate to Western markets. The tools are different, the bar on trust and brand safety is considerably higher, and the economics behave differently. Brands were entering the channel without the infrastructure to operate in it properly.
Eighteen months on, the platform runs social commerce for global FMCG leaders. The platform ingests millions of creator videos a day and analyses each one in full — the footage, the speech, the audio and the metadata — so brands understand what is safe to run against, which creators deliver genuine value, and what is actually driving sales.
How we work
We question how things should be done rather than defaulting to how others do them. We move quickly when there is a real customer problem to solve. The team operates without ego or politics, and we intend to keep it that way. We aim to leave each week a little better than the last.-
The opportunity
We process millions of TikTok videos a day and turn them into the data products our customers depend on: brand safety, creator intelligence, business intelligence, and a predictive 'next best action' layer. The pipelines behind this are mature. The product surface that brings it to customers is where we most need to build.
You will be a full-stack developer working across our React and TypeScript front end and our Python back end. You will build the dashboards, reporting, and workflow tooling that global enterprise customers rely on daily, connect that front end to the services and data warehouse behind it, and own features end to end — from the API through to the interface. You will also take on ad-hoc product and data requests, fixes, and improvements that ship quickly.
This is an applied, product-focused engineering role. The core challenge is making complex, large-scale AI output legible and trustworthy to enterprise customers, and doing so reliably, quickly, and to a high standard of craft. You do not need to have trained a model; you need to build excellent product on top of one.
You will work closely with the engineering team, including our senior ML engineer, translating pipeline output into interfaces customers can see and act on. You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, and colleagues who do not write code, so clear communication across all three matters.
At a glance
- Location: London, hybrid, Mondays and Wednesdays in office
- Compensation: competitive salary
- Level: mid-senior career, we care more about how you think than how long you've been doing this
- Start: flexible, ideally Summer 2026
What you'll work on
- Building customer-facing product in React and TypeScript: dashboards, reporting, creator and content intelligence views, and the workflow tooling brands use to manage social commerce
- Writing Python back-end services and APIs that connect our video pipelines, our data warehouse, and the front end
- Turning large-scale, multi-modal AI output into interfaces that are clear, trustworthy, and fast, even with millions of records a day behind them
- Extending the product to cover new brands, sub-brands, and data fields as the business grows
- Ad-hoc product and data requests, and data warehouse model updates as reporting needs shift
- Writing documentation and explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences
Who we're looking for
This is a mid career role. We care more about how you think than how long you have been doing it.
- Comfortable across the stack: you have built and shipped software with a modern front end (React / TypeScript) and a back end (Python, or the ability to get there quickly), whether through a role, an internship, a substantial side project, or open source
- A strong sense for product and UX: you care whether what you build is genuinely usable, not only whether it works
- Strong written communication: you can explain a trade-off in a paragraph rather than a meeting
- Curious about how to build strong a product on top of frontier model output
- Able to be in our London office on Mondays and Wednesdays
Nice to have
- A relevant degree (CS, Engineering, Maths, or similar)
- Experience with a modern React framework (Next.js or similar) and component-driven front-end architecture
- Experience with data visualisation, dashboards, or BI-style interfaces
- Experience with async Python, APIs, and data warehouses
- Experience with big data (millions of records a day or more)
- Experience with frontier model APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) and getting useful structured output from them
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration (Temporal, or Airflow / Prefect / Dagster)
- Cloud experience, particularly AWS
Why Unbox
Social commerce is already substantial in Asia, and Western markets are two to three years behind. The category is projected to grow from roughly $870bn this year to $1.6tn by 2030, and the tooling brands need to operate in it properly has not yet been built. That is what we are building — join now and you help shape it.
What that looks like day to day:
- Real scale from day one. Millions of videos behind the product, and customers who notice immediately when something breaks.
- End-to-end ownership. Front end, back end, and the API between them, with real users on the other side.
- A short path from build to feedback. Ship in the morning and hear from someone using it the same day.
- A small team with no politics to manage. Ask anything and learn quickly.
- A close view of how social commerce works, on the platforms where it is happening.
