About the job
About LexSort
LexSort Legal is a local-first case management tool for Ontario criminal defence lawyers — all data and AI inference stay on the lawyer's own machine, nothing goes to the cloud. It's been built solo (with AI-assisted development) by the founder, based directly on feedback from a practicing criminal defence lawyer running a live pilot and a law student co-designer. LexSort Inc. is incorporated, a patent is in process, and we're pre-revenue and upfront about that.
The scope of this engagement
We already have working native desktop shells for both macOS (Swift/Cocoa + WKWebView) and Windows (WebView2), clean-room verified end-to-end. This role isn't building these from scratch — it's taking the existing native app and making it genuinely production-hardened: fixing edge cases, tightening the install/packaging experience, improving code quality, and continuing to extend features based on active pilot-lawyer feedback.
Where this could go
This starts as scoped, paid work with the founder and continues from there — implementing further changes from our law-student co-designer's ongoing feedback. If it's a strong fit, the next step is running a live product demo together for our pilot lawyer, which is our entry point into the wider GTA criminal defence market. We're not promising a bigger role upfront — we want to earn that conversation through the work itself, and we're honest that any long-term equity or partnership conversation comes after we've proven we work well together.
Who you are
Strong general software engineering skills; prior native macOS (Cocoa/AppKit) or Windows (WebView2/C#) experience is a plus but not required if you're comfortable reading and improving an existing codebase in these areas
Can work independently from a written spec and deliver a testable result
GTA-based is a plus for eventual in-person demo work, not required to start
To apply
A short note on relevant experience (native desktop, or general engineering strength) and a GitHub/portfolio link, to [email protected]
