About the job
McDonagh Demolition is a growing demolition and site-services company focused on delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality projects. As our operations continue to grow, we're investing in technology and data to improve decision-making, automate processes, and create greater visibility across the business.
We're looking for a Data Engineer to help build the data infrastructure that supports our operations, technology, and business teams.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you'll design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and systems that bring information together from multiple sources.
You'll work closely with business stakeholders, software engineers, project teams, and leadership to understand data requirements and turn them into scalable solutions. Your work will help the company make better decisions, automate reporting, improve operational efficiency, and get more value from its data.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems and wants to see a direct impact from the systems they build.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
Collect and integrate data from internal applications, databases, APIs, and third-party systems.
Develop and maintain data warehouses and structured data models.
Write efficient SQL queries for data transformation, analysis, and reporting.
Develop data integrations between business systems and applications.
Build automated processes for data ingestion, transformation, validation, and delivery.
Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot data quality or reliability issues.
Establish data validation and quality-control processes.
Optimize existing data workflows for performance, reliability, and scalability.
Work with software engineers to integrate data into applications and internal tools.
Collaborate with business teams to understand reporting and analytics requirements.
Support dashboards, business intelligence, and operational reporting.
Document data architecture, pipelines, processes, and technical decisions.
Help establish engineering standards and best practices for data management.
Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions that improve the company's data capabilities.
Qualifications
1+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software engineering, or a related technical role.
Strong proficiency with SQL.
Professional experience with Python or another programming language.
Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
Understanding of data modeling and database design.
Experience working with APIs and third-party data sources.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Experience using Git and modern software development practices.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
Experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.
Experience with Docker and CI/CD.
Experience building real-time or near-real-time data pipelines.
Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
Experience with dbt or similar data transformation frameworks.
Experience with construction, engineering, logistics, field services, or other operational businesses.
Familiarity with ERP, CRM, project-management, or financial systems.
What You'll Work On
Your projects may include:
Integrating data from operational and business systems.
Building centralized data pipelines and reporting infrastructure.
Automating manual reporting processes.
Creating reliable datasets for business intelligence.
Improving data quality and accessibility.
Supporting operational dashboards and analytics.
Connecting APIs and third-party platforms.
Developing systems that help teams track projects, resources, costs, and performance.
Identifying opportunities to use data and automation to improve business processes.
We're looking for a practical, curious, and hands-on Data Engineer who enjoys solving real business problems with technology.
You don't need to have experience in the demolition industry. What matters most is your ability to understand complex data problems, build reliable systems, communicate effectively, and take ownership of your work.
If you're excited about building data infrastructure that can have a direct impact on how a growing company operates, we'd love to hear from you.
McDonagh Demolition is an equal opportunity employer.
