Position Summary

The Principal Data Engineer provides enterprise technical leadership for Adeia’s data and analytics platform, setting its long-term direction while owning the architecture, roadmap, and standards that support the company’s data, analytics, and AI initiatives. Partnering with the Director of Business Technologies, the role translates executive priorities into a multi-year data roadmap and delivers scalable, governed, and maintainable data capabilities across the organization. This role serves as the technical authority for data engineering, shaping technology investments, establishing enterprise standards, and growing data capability across the company.

Key Responsibilities

Set the direction for data at Adeia. Own the architecture and multi-year roadmap for the company’s data platform, partnering with the Director of Business Technologies to translate executive priorities into technical strategy.

Own the data platform end to end. Lead pipeline architecture, the Snowflake warehouse, data modeling, source extraction, data quality, lineage, and warehouse consumption economics.

Build and operate data pipelines. Deliver reliable ingestion and transformation from SaaS systems of record, including Salesforce and NetSuite, using Fivetran and dbt.

Own analytics and BI delivery. Deliver dashboards, self-service BI, metric definitions, analytical models, and internal data applications in partnership with stakeholders across the company.

Define the standards Adeia builds on. Establish data modeling conventions, pipeline patterns, and quality, documentation, and lineage practices that ensure data is trustworthy, discoverable, and maintainable across the organization.

Shape where Adeia invests in data. Evaluate emerging technologies, manage vendor relationships, and provide technology investment recommendations supported by business and technical evidence.

Supply the data foundation for AI. Provide the governed data platform that supports AI agents and automation while resolving data-related root causes affecting AI solutions.

Grow data capability across the company. Mentor IT engineers and business technologists, raising the quality of data engineering practices beyond your own work.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Extensive hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines, dimensional data models, and cloud data warehouse platforms.
• Deep experience with Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, SQL, and Python.
• Experience delivering analytics and business intelligence solutions using governed data.
• Experience defining technical direction, prioritizing competing business needs, and partnering directly with business stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical capability across an organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a related discipline.
• Snowflake or cloud platform certifications.
• Experience supporting AI/LLM applications with governed data.
• Experience building Streamlit applications or similar internal data applications.
• Experience in a SOX-regulated or public company environment.

Location: US Remote

National Range: $174,000 - $190,000

Bonus Target: 15% of annualized base pay

Restricted Stock Units Target (as a % of annualized base pay): 60%

The base compensation is based on the primary work location, as ranges are location-specific. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications.
