About the job
About Us
MCS is a bootstrapped, fully remote IT services company of 60+ people, serving clients globally across 30+ countries. We build custom software solutions — web and mobile applications, AI solutions, and digital products for businesses across retail, fintech, education, healthcare, travel and more.
About The Role
This is a full-time remote role for an Associate Developer with 0–1 year of experience. You don't need to have shipped a production app at scale. But you understand how software gets built and care deeply about doing it well. If you have solid OOP fundamentals, a working familiarity with PHP frameworks (Laravel / CodeIgniter / Symfony / CakePHP etc.), and the instinct to figure things out rather than wait to be told, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
- Build defined features in Laravel and/or CodeIgniter under the guidance of senior developers.
- Investigate and fix bugs- with the curiosity to understand why they happened, not just to close the ticket.
- Write tests for the code you build.
- Communicate progress clearly and flag blockers early before they become problems.
- Participate in stand-ups, code reviews and sprint processes as a contributing team member.
- Work across multiple client projects, adapting quickly to different codebases and requirements.
You Bring
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 6 months of hands-on exposure to PHP — through an internship, training program, or a project you've actually built and can show us.
- Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) — this is non-negotiable.
- Familiarity with PHP and at least one PHP framework (Laravel preferred, CodeIgniter welcome).
- Understanding of SDLC. You know how software gets built end to end, not just your piece of it.
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL.
- Familiarity with Git for version control.
- Ability to see things from a business point of view — you understand that code serves a purpose beyond the editor.
- Any personal, academic, or freelance project you've built — something real, not just coursework.
You are NOT a fit if you:
- Write code that only you can read.
- Need constant direction to move forward.
- Default to blame or complaint when things get hard.
- Treat team process as optional.
- Are in it for the job title, not the craft.
Key Metrics (KPIs)
- Code quality: Clean, readable, passes review without repeated rework.
- On-time delivery of assigned features within sprint commitments.
- Bug rate introduced per feature, trending down over time.
- Proactive communication: Blockers raised early, not at the deadline.
- Speed of onboarding onto new client codebases.
What Success Looks Like In This Role
- You pick up new codebases and client contexts without needing weeks of hand-holding.
- Your code works and your teammates can read, understand and build on it.
- You raise blockers before they become missed deadlines.
- You debug your own work before it reaches QA.
- You're getting more confident and taking on more complex tasks over time.
- You contribute to the team — in stand-ups, in reviews, in the small moments that make a remote team actually work.
What We Offer
- Fully remote — no relocation required.
- Real client projects to work on.
- Mentorship from senior developers in a collaborative remote environment.
- Exposure to diverse industries and codebases.
- 22 paid leaves. Alternate Saturdays and Sundays off.
