  • Build the tooling room’s skills and equipment to take molds from concept and design through prototyping, qualification, production release, and maintenance.
  • Establish mold-design standards, design reviews, documentation requirements, and tooling acceptance criteria.
  • Optimize molding parameters, setups, cure cycles, material flow, and process controls to improve quality, yield, throughput, and cost.
  • Serve as the primary interface with mold designers, toolmakers, equipment suppliers, and automation vendors.
  • Define vendor requirements, evaluate proposals, lead technical reviews, and manage vendor performance, cost, timing, and deliverables.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities that improve productivity, process consistency, capacity, and labor efficiency.
  • Lead new-product introduction, molding-process development, capacity planning, validation, and transition to sustained production.
  • Manage department resources, budgets, capital requests, tooling expenditures, and project spending.
  • Establish performance metrics and drive improvements in scrap, rework, cycle time, downtime, tool life, and project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline; MBA preferred.
  • Five to seven years of manufacturing engineering management experience; aerospace experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience improving molding operations, mold design, tooling, and molding-process performance.
  • Experience specifying, qualifying, and implementing molds and molding equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of process validation, process capability, root-cause analysis, Lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, routings, bills of material, capacity planning, and cost estimating.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD software; CATIA experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, project-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Union-environment experience and bilingual English/Spanish capability are preferred.

Leadership Expectations:

  • Set clear priorities and hold the team accountable for results.
  • Use data to solve molding and manufacturing problems and sustain improvements.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
