About the job
Nexus Mental Performance is looking for a Video Editor & Motion Designer to join us on a long-term basis and help build the visual identity of the brand across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
We are building a mental performance brand focused on athletes and high-performance environments, and we are not looking for generic social media editing. We want someone with strong visual taste, creativity and storytelling ability who understands how to make content engaging without making it feel cheap, over-edited or like typical motivational content.
The role will involve editing approximately 16–20 Instagram videos per month, 18–24 TikTok videos per month and 2 long-form YouTube videos per month, usually around 8–15 minutes each. A significant part of the short-form content will come from the same recordings and ideas, so not every deliverable will require completely new footage or editing from scratch.
For Instagram, the content will include founder-led videos where João speaks directly to camera about mental performance, as well as more creative formats such as performance analysis, sports breakdowns, faceless Nexus videos, motion graphics and our 0.1 Seconds series, which explores the tiny moments and decisions that can change performance. Some videos will be relatively simple talking-head edits, while others will require much stronger visual execution using sports footage, freeze frames, slow motion, annotations, typography, diagrams, sound design and motion graphics.
For TikTok, we want a more native, direct and dynamic editing style. Content will include founder POVs, quick mental performance ideas, Q&As, reactions to moments in sport and formats such as “You’re 5–5…”, where we place the viewer inside a pressure situation, or “10 Seconds After”, where instead of analysing the mistake itself, we analyse what the athlete does immediately afterwards. Some TikToks will also be adapted from Instagram and YouTube content, but we do not want someone who simply exports the exact same video to every platform. The editor should understand that each platform has a different rhythm and purpose.
For YouTube, João will be the presenter and performance analyst. We will provide the ideas, recordings and analysis, while the editor will turn that material into something closer to a premium performance video essay or mini-documentary, rather than simply showing someone talking to camera for 10–15 minutes. A typical video might begin with João introducing a question such as “What Pressure Actually Does to Performance”, move into footage from sport, freeze and analyse specific moments, use João’s voice-over, introduce graphics or diagrams to explain the concept, return to João for deeper explanation and finish with practical application. Other examples could include “Why One Mistake Becomes Two,” “Can Confidence Actually Be Trained?” or “Why Mental Training Should Be Daily.”
We will provide the content strategy, concepts, raw footage, João’s on-camera recordings, performance analysis, scripts or direction when necessary, references and Nexus brand guidelines. We are not hiring someone to invent our marketing strategy. We are hiring someone who can take strong ideas and make them visually powerful.
We are looking for someone highly capable in video editing, motion graphics, storytelling, typography, sound design, sports editing, colour correction, audio clean-up and both short-form and long-form pacing. Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and/or DaVinci Resolve is highly valued. Experience working with sports, athletes, premium brands, documentaries, video essays or high-quality YouTube content would be a major advantage.
The Nexus visual identity is premium, scientific, human, minimal, precise, calm and innovative. We do not want generic motivational edits, unnecessary transitions, constant zooms, overloaded subtitles, random effects or “guru” aesthetics. Attention matters, but we don’t chase attention at the cost of credibility.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who does more than ask, “Where should I cut?” We want someone who looks at an idea and asks, “How can I make this visually powerful?” There will be room for creative input, and for the right person this can develop into a significant long-term creative role as Nexus grows.
To apply, please send us your portfolio, your best short-form edit, your best long-form or YouTube edit, and ideally an example involving motion graphics or sports content. Please also include your expected monthly rate and typical turnaround time. Selected candidates may be invited to complete a small paid editing test using Nexus content before we begin a longer-term collaboration.
