Experience: Fresher to 2 years
About Variabl
Variabl is the all-in-one financial product for India's independents: freelancers, consultants, creators, agencies and solo professionals. Website: https://variabl.in
We handle the entire back office of running an independent business, from invoicing and payments to GST, income tax and compliance. Three things work together: software that tracks every rupee, Maya AI that does the work, and real chartered accountants who review and sign off on every filing, inside the product.
We also run International Accounts, so independents can receive foreign payments at the mid-market rate with 0% FX markup and 24-hour INR settlement.
We are a small, fast team. What we ship this week is in front of users next week.
The Role
You will work alongside our frontend engineer on the Variabl web app, the dashboard our users live in every day. Invoicing, clients, onboarding flows, GST and tax screens, international accounts, Maya AI chat surfaces.
There is no design team and no Figma file waiting for you. You will get a requirement, sometimes from the founders, sometimes from a user complaint, sometimes one line in a message. Your job is to understand what is actually being asked, think through the user experience yourself, and build the interface. If you need clarity, you ask sharp questions and get it. If the requirement is vague, you come back with a working screen and a reason for every decision in it.
What you will actually do:
- Take a requirement from founders, users or the team, and turn it into a working, well designed screen
- Design the interface yourself. Layout, hierarchy, states, flow, copy. You decide, then defend it
- Build new features end to end in Next.js, React and TypeScript
- Integrate with our backend APIs, working closely with the backend team on contracts, edge cases and error states
- Improve what already exists: spacing, alignment, empty states, loading, errors, dark mode, mobile
- Fix bugs reported by users and the team, fast
- Build and extend our shared component library so the product stays consistent
* Use AI tools aggressively to move faster, and review everything they produce before it ships
Our Tech Stack
You do not need to know all of this. Know the core and pick up the rest fast.
Core, we expect you to know these
- Next.js (App Router, server and client components)
- React
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- Git and GitHub. Clean branches, clear commits, PR based workflow. This is non-negotiable
What we use daily, easy to learn on the job
- shadcn/ui and Radix for component primitives
- React Hook Form and Zod for forms and validation
- TanStack Query for data fetching and caching
- REST API integration with our backend services
- Google Cloud Platform. The app runs on Cloud Run, built and deployed through Docker and Cloud Build. You will see how your code gets to production
- PostHog and Sentry for analytics and error tracking
What We Are Looking For
Must have
- Strong React and TypeScript fundamentals. You can build a non-trivial screen without hand-holding
- An obsessive eye for design. Four pixels of misalignment should bother you. Inconsistent spacing, a button that is the wrong size, a modal that jumps on open, a hover state that does not exist. If these things do not annoy you, this is not your role
- Product sense. You can imagine how a real user will move through a flow, where they will get confused, and what should happen when things go wrong
- High ownership. You take a problem, figure it out, and come back with it done, not with a list of blockers
- Fluency with AI tools. Claude, Cursor, whatever you use. We expect you to be fast because of them, and to still understand every line you ship
- Strong communication. You can extract the real requirement out of a vague ask, tell us what you are building and why, and flag problems early
- Ability to learn fast and figure things out on your own
- Speed. We would rather see something working today than perfect next month
Nice to have
- Personal projects, side products or open-source work we can look at
- Exposure to fintech, SaaS dashboards or complex form-heavy products
- Some backend or API awareness, enough to debug an integration without waiting on someone
- An eye for accessibility and performance
Not required
- A CS degree
- Prior startup experience
- Knowledge of accounting, GST or tax. We will teach you the domain
Who This Is For
You will do well here if you are the kind of person who:
- Notices a broken layout on a page nobody asked you to look at, and fixes it
- Has strong opinions about interfaces, and can back them up
- Would rather ask one sharp question than five vague ones
- Wants to see your work used by real paying customers, not sit in a staging branch
- Is looking for a place where the gap between "I have an idea" and "it is live" is measured in days
You will not enjoy this if you need tightly scoped tickets, a designer to hand you screens, a QA team to catch your bugs, or a manager checking in three times a day.
The Details
Stipend ₹15,000/month
Duration 6 months
Location Bangalore, in office. This is not a remote role
Reviews Monthly performance check-ins

How to Apply
Send us:
- Your resume
- GitHub, portfolio or live projects. Anything you have built that you are proud of. Deployed links beat screenshots, screenshots beat descriptions
- Two or three lines on the best interface you have built, and one specific thing you would change about Variabl's product today. Take a look at variabl.in
Process: short intro call, then a small take-home build task (a real screen, from a written requirement, timeboxed), then a walkthrough of your work with the team, then an offer. We move fast. Expect a decision within a few days.
