About the job
Develo is redefining the pediatric care experience by bringing its leading pediatric operating system and revenue cycle management (RCM) services to independent pediatric practices across the country. We've built a modern platform that pediatricians and their staff love with functionality extending far beyond traditional electronic medical record (EMR) system capabilities. We are now building out the RCM team to ensure practices thrive financially.
As an RCM Specialist, you'll cover all things billing in working with our customers and grow your RCM depth over time. As we build out this function, expect scope to evolve — some of what's listed below will be split across a larger RCM team as we scale:
RCM Billing Services
- Manage work queues and automation rules within the Develo billing stack, and scrub claims through a blend of rules automation and manual review before submission. Submit clean claims at every level — primary, secondary, and tertiary — and work rejections, denials, and Level-1 appeals through to resolution.
- Post payments via electronic remittance advice (ERA), plus portal-based EOBs where the practice has granted payer-portal access, and run insurance A/R follow-up on a defined aging cadence.
- Flag missed-revenue opportunities — billable, payable services the practice isn’t currently capturing — and tune automation rules with the practice’s approval to close the gap.
- Run regular check-in meetings with your RCM billing services customers to review with confidence RCM billing services progress over time, discuss performance, and identify issues that arise.
- Track core RCM KPIs (e.g., Clean Claim Rate, Days in A/R, Net Collection Rate) for practices that you directly work with.
- Fully own insurance-side billing end-to-end: patient-facing collections and statements is out-of-scope
RCM Billing Support
- Partner with the implementation team on the billing side for new software-only customer go-lives — configuring billing account setup, payer enrollments, and EDI/ERA/EFT connections — and train new practice billers and practice managers on Develo's billing workflows. The implementation lead owns the overall go-live plan; you own the billing setup and training.
- Serve as the billing point of contact for software-only customers when billing-related issues arise post-go-live, partnering with others at Develo as needed to resolve. Your primary stakeholders are practice billers and practice managers, and secondarily pediatricians when it comes to charge capture-related issues, and you’ll support by answering their billing questions and troubleshooting claims, denials, rejections, ERA/EFT, and A/R cleanup issues.
- Run customer billing support and training calls with confidence (e.g., calmly working through a frustrated office manager's issue on a live call, walking a biller through a claim fix), and provide practical, actionable RCM advice grounded in real-world billing mechanics.
- Monitor customer billing activity to spot recurring patterns and flag issues early.
- Own and triage the billing support ticket queue, keeping response times and resolutions on track.
Continuous Improvement and Product Input
- Help turn recurring issues and resolutions into repeatable playbooks for Develo’s RCM team and our practice customers.
- Surface software gaps and billing friction points as inputs to the roadmap for Develo’s Design, Product, and Engineering teams.
Who You Are
You're a capable, hands-on biller with a solid RCM foundation, the patience to walk a practice biller or manager through a fix, and the collaborative spirit and hustle to thrive in an early-stage environment. You're eager to grow your expertise and take on more over time.
- Experience: 3 to 4+ years of hands-on RCM billing experience, ideally at a RCM billing services organization working across multiple practices, rather than in a practice billing setting.
- Payer & Enrollment Familiarity: Comfortable working with EDI, ERA, and EFT enrollments; understands the basics of Commercial vs. Medicaid/CHIP nuances.
- A/R Skill: Can read an Aging Report and work through common root causes (credentialing, COB, coding, timely filing) to identify the next step to take.
- Pediatric Background: Familiarity with pediatric-specific billing — e.g., VFC tracking, well-child bundling, or complex guarantor/family billing logic.
- Startup Fit: Comfortable with ambiguity, able to run independently on day-to-day work, and comfortable using modern tools (e.g., Slack, modern ticketing, AI tools) to move faster and support customers better in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer Communication: You bring the right mix of RCM knowledge and human touch — customers walk away from a call with their issue understood and a clear next step, and feeling genuinely cared for, heard, and empathized with.
