Overview
GovStar seeks a talented, hungry Frontend Engineer to build accessible, responsive, and intuitive user interfaces for enterprise AI applications. This hands-on individual contributor will translate mission workflows into usable experiences, integrate frontend applications with secure backend and AI services, apply approved design standards, and continuously improve products using customer and user feedback.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain responsive, production-quality frontend applications for AI and advanced analytics capabilities.
- Build reusable React and TypeScript components and integrate them with secure backend APIs and AI-enabled services.
- Translate approved designs and user workflows into accessible, intuitive interfaces for structured and unstructured data analysis.
- Implement user experiences for natural-language querying, AI-assisted analysis, tagging/classification, drafting, search, review, and other approved mission workflows.
- Apply accessibility and approved government design standards, including Section 508 requirements where applicable.
- Optimize frontend performance, reliability, browser compatibility, usability, and maintainability.
- Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and maintain high frontend engineering quality standards.
- Work within GitHub Enterprise and DevSecOps/CI/CD workflows for source control, testing, build, and deployment.
- Collaborate with designers, full-stack developers, AI engineers, customer stakeholders, and users to gather feedback and iterate on functionality.
- Troubleshoot frontend integration, state-management, rendering, authentication, accessibility, and performance issues.
Minimum Requirements
U.S. citizenship.
Current residence in the United States and residence in either the Eastern or Central Time Zone.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field.
At least 6 years of relevant professional frontend or software engineering experience.
Expert-level hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
Demonstrated experience building and deploying modern, responsive web applications.
Experience integrating frontend applications with REST APIs and backend services.
Strong understanding of accessibility, semantic HTML, responsive design, component architecture, and modern frontend testing practices.
Experience using Git-based source control and CI/CD workflows.
Ability to work independently on complex tasks with limited oversight while collaborating effectively across disciplines.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and written and verbal communication.

Preferred Requirements
- Experience developing user interfaces for AI/ML or data-intensive applications.
- Experience with Section 508, WCAG, USWDS, Fluent UI, or other enterprise/government design systems.
- Experience with Azure-hosted applications and authentication/authorization integrations.
- Working knowledge of Python or another backend language.
- Experience with data visualization, large datasets, search/review workflows, or investigative/case-management interfaces.
- Experience supporting federal government technology initiatives or regulated environments.
