Overview
GovStar seeks a Full Stack AI Developer to build and maintain secure end-user and service-layer capabilities for enterprise AI applications. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on developing production-quality software that enables agency personnel to securely analyze structured and unstructured data, interact with AI-enabled services, and integrate approved models and data sources within a centralized Azure environment.
Responsibilities ###
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack AI applications and supporting services.
- Build secure backend APIs and service-layer integrations for AI-assisted analysis, natural-language querying, tagging/classification, drafting, trend analysis, and other approved use cases.
- Develop user-facing functionality that integrates with approved AI services, centralized data platforms, and enterprise authentication/authorization mechanisms.
- Integrate applications with Azure-hosted services, approved commercial or government AI services, databases, and data-processing platforms.
- Implement secure patterns that protect sensitive government information and prevent unauthorized data movement or leakage.
- Build automated tests and participate in code reviews to maintain high standards for reliability, maintainability, and security.
- Work within GitHub Enterprise and DevSecOps workflows for source control, issue tracking, CI/CD, and release management.
- Support migration of existing AI tools and services into the centralized Azure platform.
- Troubleshoot application, API, integration, and performance issues across the full stack.
- Collaborate closely with AI engineers, frontend engineers, cloud/platform engineers, data specialists, security personnel, and customer stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements ###
- U.S. citizenship.
- Current residence in the United States and residence in either the Eastern or Central Time Zone.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related technical field.
- At least 7 years of relevant professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on full-stack development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern API/service development.
- Strong experience building and deploying modern web applications using a contemporary frontend framework such as React and TypeScript.
- Experience integrating applications with relational and/or NoSQL data stores.
- Experience developing secure applications in cloud environments, with Azure experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Git-based source control, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software engineering practices.
- Working knowledge of LLM-enabled application patterns, including prompt-based integrations and model-backed services.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.

Preferred Requirements
- Experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Databricks, Document Intelligence, or similar enterprise AI services.
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector search, or AI orchestration frameworks.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or similar enterprise data stores.
- Experience with containerized application delivery using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Experience supporting federal government technology initiatives or regulated environments.
- Experience implementing accessibility requirements, including Section 508, in web applications.
