Overview

GovStar seeks a talented, courageous SRE Platform Engineer to automate, operate, monitor, and continuously improve the secure platform supporting enterprise AI and advanced analytics capabilities. This role is a hands-on engineering position focused on platform reliability, DevOps, incident response, observability, infrastructure-as-code, and secure operations in Azure environments supporting sensitive government data and AI workloads.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, automate, operate, and sustain reliable platform services supporting AI applications and centralized data capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC), primarily using Terraform, for repeatable and controlled Azure environment deployment.
  • Establish and improve observability through metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and actionable operational telemetry.
  • Develop and maintain incident response procedures, runbooks, service health checks, and reliability practices, including SLIs/SLOs where appropriate.
  • Support containerized platform deployments and orchestration patterns as directed by the customer and architecture.
  • Implement DevSecOps practices using GitHub Enterprise, automated pipelines, code review, configuration management, and controlled release processes.
  • Monitor production and pilot environments; troubleshoot performance, availability, deployment, networking, identity, and integration issues.
  • Support platform security, compliance, vulnerability remediation, auditability, and Authority-to-Operate (ATO) activities.
  • Partner with AI, application, data, cloud, and security engineers to improve platform resilience, deployment speed, and operational consistency.
  • Document platform architecture, operational procedures, known failure modes, recovery steps, and technical decisions.

Minimum Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Current residence in the United States and residence in either the Eastern or Central Time Zone.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in site reliability engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, cloud operations, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on experience operating production cloud environments, with Azure experience strongly preferred.
  • Production experience with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD, source control, automated deployment, and secure software delivery practices.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience with containers and modern cloud-native deployment practices.
  • Strong scripting or programming ability in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or a comparable language.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate risks, blockers, and technical decisions proactively.

GovStar Expectations

  • Passion for solving complex technical challenges in support of U.S. national security objectives.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and stretch outside established areas of expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with customers, partners, and teammates.
  • Proactive communication, self-direction, ownership, and the ability to start and lead initiatives without waiting to be told what to do.
  • Commitment to GovStar’s collective growth through knowledge sharing and participation in internal initiatives, innovation efforts, onboarding, and business-development support.
  • Professionalism, humility, curiosity, customer empathy, and a collaborative, team-first mindset.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience supporting AI/LLM platforms or data-intensive applications.
  • Experience with Azure networking, identity, Key Vault, Azure Monitor, private connectivity, and security controls.
  • Experience supporting Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience supporting U.S. federal government environments, ATO activities, FedRAMP/FISMA-aligned controls, or other regulated systems.
