About Astrohaus

Astrohaus is a small team based outside Detroit founded on the simple principle that people deserve more thoughtful technology products. Founded in 2014 with the breakout Freewrite Smart Typewriter, the brand has brought back the joy of writing to tens of thousands of writers across the globe. Over 1 billion words have been written on Freewrite devices since the first device shipped in 2016.

Accolades: Freewrite products have won several awards and in 2021 the Smart Typewriter entered the Science Museum, London’s permanent Printing & Writing Collection becoming a literal piece of history.

The Opportunity

Build and lead a new Freewrite for Education education business unit to bring AI-free writing to schools. Education is at an inflection point. As schools and universities navigate the rise of AI-generated writing, increasing digital distraction, and growing concerns about student focus and authentic work, educators are searching for new tools that help students think deeply and write intentionally.

For more than a decade, Freewrite has helped professional writers produce their best work through distraction-free technology. We're now bringing that same philosophy to education — and we're looking for an entrepreneurial Head of Education to build this business from the ground up.
Reporting directly to the Founder, this role will define Freewrite's vision and strategy across K–12 and higher education, establishing the company as a leading solution for distraction-free writing in schools and universities.

As Freewrite's first education hire, you will own every aspect of our education go-to-market strategy, from identifying the highest-impact market opportunities and building strategic partnerships, to driving revenue, supporting customer adoption, and creating the systems and infrastructure needed to scale. You will have significant autonomy to shape the direction of the business, influence product and marketing strategy, and build the foundation for a growing education team.

This is a true builder role for someone who enjoys creating something from scratch. You'll set the long-term vision while also executing the day-to-day work required to bring it to life: leading sales conversations, cultivating school district and university partnerships, representing Freewrite at conferences and industry events, and developing the operational processes that enable sustainable growth.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in education technology, business development, and district partnerships, along with a strong understanding of how schools adopt new technologies. They have an established network across the education ecosystem, a track record of driving revenue and market expansion, and a passion for helping educators create more intentional, focused learning experiences.

What You'll Accomplish

Own the Education Business Strategy

  • Define and execute Freewrite's long-term vision and go-to-market strategy for K–12 and higher education.
  • Identify the highest-impact opportunities for growth across school districts, higher education institutions, state agencies, and education organizations.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for market expansion, including customer segments, pricing strategy, distribution channels, partnerships, and revenue growth.
  • Serve as the internal expert on the education landscape, continuously monitoring market trends, procurement processes, competitive offerings, and emerging opportunities.
  • Partner with the founder and leadership team to shape company strategy as the education business grows.

Build and Scale the Education Business

  • Own education revenue goals and build the pipeline, partnerships, and sales strategy required to achieve them.
  • Develop and execute the end-to-end education sales process — from lead generation and qualification to pilot implementation, procurement, and long-term customer success.
  • Build relationships with district leaders, university administrators, instructional technology teams, curriculum leaders, and state education organizations.
  • Lead product demonstrations, sales presentations, contract negotiations, and implementation planning.
  • Establish repeatable sales processes that can scale as the education business expands.

Build Strategic Partnerships

  • Cultivate partnerships with school districts, universities, nonprofit organizations, education networks, publishers, and strategic partners that accelerate adoption and expand market reach.
  • Leverage an existing network across the education ecosystem to generate new opportunities and build credibility for Freewrite.
  • Develop pilot programs, customer success stories, grant-funded initiatives, and research partnerships that generate the evidence needed to support widespread adoption.
  • Build long-term relationships that position Freewrite as a trusted thought partner — not simply a vendor.

Build the Operational Foundation for Scale

  • Design and implement the systems and processes required to support a growing education business.
  • Establish CRM and pipeline management systems, sales forecasting, customer reporting, and key performance metrics.
  • Develop the resources schools and universities need to adopt Freewrite successfully, including implementation guides, onboarding materials, professional learning resources, procurement documentation, privacy policies, accessibility information, and customer success playbooks.
  • Navigate district procurement requirements and position Freewrite for inclusion on state, district, and institutional approved vendor lists.
  • Build scalable processes that prepare the education business for future team growth.
  • Shape Freewrite's Education Brand & Thought Leadership
  • Define Freewrite's education messaging and value proposition in partnership with the marketing team.
  • Guide education-focused marketing campaigns, customer stories, case studies, conference materials, and thought leadership content.
  • Represent Freewrite at national conferences, industry events, webinars, and speaking engagements.
  • Serve as the public face of Freewrite within the education community, building awareness, credibility, and demand.
  • Provide customer and market insights that inform product development and future innovation.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience leading business development, partnerships, sales, or market expansion within education technology.
  • Experience operating in a startup, high-growth company, or other entrepreneurial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success selling and scaling technology solutions in K–12 and/or higher education.
  • Existing relationships with district leaders, higher education institutions, education nonprofits, state agencies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience building a new market, product line, or business unit from early adoption through growth.
  • Proven ability to own revenue targets and deliver measurable business results.
  • Experience developing go-to-market strategies, managing complex sales cycles, and building scalable systems and processes.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Enjoy building relationships through regular travel to schools, universities, conferences, and customer meetings.

What Success Looks Like

  • In your first year, you will have laid the foundation for Freewrite's education business by:
  • Defining and launching a clear go-to-market strategy for K–12 and higher education that positions Freewrite for long-term growth.
  • Building a strong pipeline of district, higher education, and strategic partnership opportunities while meeting ambitious revenue and growth goals.
  • Creating scalable systems and processes for customer relationship management, sales forecasting, implementation, and customer success.
  • Developing the resources and documentation required to support broad adoption, including implementation guides, case studies, procurement materials, privacy documentation, and customer-facing support resources.
  • Establishing Freewrite as a credible and respected voice within the education community.

Why This Role

This is a rare opportunity to define and lead an entirely new category in education at exactly the right moment. As schools and universities grapple with the impact of constant connectivity, declining student focus, and the rapid rise of AI-generated writing, educators are actively searching for tools that foster authentic thinking and sustained attention.

If you're excited by the challenge of building a business, shaping a category, and helping schools rethink what meaningful writing looks like in the age of AI, we'd love to hear from you.
