About Bird Collective
Bird Collective is a women-owned company creating bird-inspired apparel, gifts, and accessories featuring original artwork. Our mission is to connect people with birds through thoughtful design while supporting conservation efforts. Since 2019, we’ve donated more than $290,000 to bird conservation organizations across North America.
About the Role
We're seeking a creative, organized, and strategic freelance Social Media Manager to grow and engage Bird Collective's online community. This role will lead planning, creation, and publishing across Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, translating our collections, conservation partnerships, artist collaborations, and community initiatives into engaging, platform-specific content.
This role combines storytelling, content creation, and performance analysis. The ideal candidate has strong creative instincts, understands what performs well across social platforms, and uses analytics to continually refine strategy. They are excited to experiment with humor, internet culture, and emerging trends in ways that feel authentic to Bird Collective's voice and mission.
A strong knowledge of birds, birding culture, and birding ethics is highly preferred. Our community is built around both the joy of birding and conservation, and our content reflects those values.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage Bird Collective's social media content calendar, aligning content with product launches, campaigns, and seasonal initiatives.
- Create, edit, and publish content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social media platforms, including posts, stories, reels, and short-form video.
- Write engaging captions and copy that reflect Bird Collective's voice, values, and sense of humor.
- Develop original content concepts inspired by social media trends, internet culture, and community conversations in ways that feel authentic to Bird Collective.
- Manage day-to-day community engagement by responding to comments, messages, and story interactions.
- Identify opportunities for creator collaborations, influencer partnerships, and user-generated content.
- Monitor social media performance and provide regular reporting with recommendations for improving engagement and audience growth.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience managing social media for a brand, organization, or creator.
- Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
- Experience creating engaging photo and video content, including short-form video (Instagram Reels, TikTok, etc.).
- Strong visual sensibility and the ability to curate content consistent with an established brand.
- Strong editorial judgment and an understanding of how to adapt social media trends, memes, and internet culture into content that is fresh, entertaining, and aligned with Bird Collective's voice and values.
- Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and evolving platform best practices.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working remotely.
- A strong portfolio showcasing social media content you've created or accounts you've managed.
- Strong knowledge of birds, birding culture, and birding ethics.
Bonus Qualifications
- Photography and videography experience.
- Graphic design experience.
- Experience with social media scheduling platforms (such as Sked), Shopify, Klaviyo, or influencer and creator partnerships
- Comfortable appearing on camera and potentially serving as a recognizable face of the brand through short-form video content on platforms like Instagram Reels and TikTok.
