Software Engineer (Full Stack)

Nector is a Shopify-native loyalty and rewards platform used by D2C brands to run points, tiers, referrals and rewards programs. Our software sits between live storefronts and real transactions, so correctness, performance and reliability are the product.
We're a small team, so you'll own features end to end — schema, API, UI, deploy, and what happens after it ships. If you'd rather be handed a problem than a ticket, you'll do well here.

What you'll work on

Design and build features end to end: data model, REST APIs, background jobs, and the frontend on top of them
Merchant-facing dashboards (React SPAs) and storefront widgets that load fast and behave on every theme they land on
Our Shopify integration surface — webhooks, extensions, and the platform mechanics the product depends on
Your code in production: instrument it, debug it when it misbehaves, fix the root cause
Improving system reliability and performance, and refactoring for maintainability as the product grows. This is treated as core work, not something done on the side

What we're looking for

• Depth over familiarity — you should understand how your tools actually work, not just how to use them.
• JavaScript & Node.js from first principles. Event loop, promises and microtasks, async behaviour under load, error and memory semantics. You can explain why something is slow or flaky.
• Databases. Schema design, indexing strategy, query plans, transactions, and judgement about which store fits which job.
• System and API design. Rough requirement to clean data model, well-designed REST APIs, and code the next person can extend.
• Frontend fundamentals. Structuring a growing codebase, component and state design, load and render performance, and real CSS fundamentals — box model, layout, specificity. You don't need to be a CSS artist.
• Applied data structures & algorithms. Knowing when a hash map, set, graph or queue is the right tool, and reaching for binary search, memoization or DP when a problem calls for it. Judgement in real code, not competitive programming trivia.
• Systematic debugging. Reproduce, isolate, hypothesise, verify. Logs, metrics and traces are tools you already use.

• Good to have

• How applications are actually deployed and run on AWS — VPCs, subnets, security groups, load balancers, secrets

• Networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS, HTTP semantics, caching, CDNs

• Application security instincts: authn/authz, rate limiting, handling untrusted input

• Shopify experience, or any multi-tenant SaaS built on a third-party platform

• Queues and background processing at scale

How you work
This matters as much as the technical bar.

• You take ownership — end to end, including the unglamorous parts: migrations, edge cases, rollout, cleanup.
• You ship fast without shipping carelessly. You know which corners are safe to cut for a v1 and which ones cost you a weekend later.
• You work well without much structure. You define scope, break work down, and drive it to done.
• You write clearly. Short updates, decisions written down, PRs that explain the why.
• You think about the merchant. You ask what problem a feature solves before deciding how to build it.
