About the job

About TaxDome
At TaxDome, we're building the #1 practice management platform for accounting firms in the US and globally. Founded in 2017, we've grown into a 400+ fully remote team across 40+ countries, serving tens of thousands of businesses worldwide with millions of end clients.

How we work
You'll be part of a globally distributed team built on trust, ownership, and self-management.
We focus on outcomes over activity — prioritizing clear ownership, pragmatic decision-making, and accountability for results over rigid processes. Collaboration is central to how we operate: we communicate openly, involve the right people early, and continuously improve how we build products and teams together.

About this role
We're hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager / Tech Lead to own the Desktop team — a standalone engineering unit with its own product backlog, stack, and client, operating as a significant business line within a larger product cluster. You run it end to end: lead the people, own the engineering strategy, and stay in the code yourself.

It’s a fully remote role, we are hiring across European timezones.

Our tech stack
.NET 8, C# 12 — cross-platform desktop app
Avalonia UI
NUnit
GitLab

What you'll be responsible for
Own the full EM frame for the Desktop team: stakeholder alignment, planning, team processes, engineering strategy, tech-debt management, and long-term technical direction.
Lead and develop a team of ~5 engineers, with direct people management of 2–3 reports.
Stay hands-on — contribute code to the team's stack alongside leading the team.
Build and sustain the team's AI-first development workflow as a repeatable, systematic process — not ad-hoc prompting — with engineering judgment as the quality gate that keeps substandard AI output out of production.
Drive the Desktop product backlog end to end in close collaboration with your product counterpart.
Build a high-performance team culture grounded in ownership, craft, and continuous improvement.

What you bring

  • Must-have Proven depth as a .NET / C# engineer — you're still close to the code and comfortable contributing to a production codebase, not just reviewing it. Demonstrated experience as a people manager for a small engineering team — real ownership of performance, development, and team health, not just a tech lead title. Track record shipping production software in cross-functional product teams, owning both technical quality and delivery. Drive to ramp fast in an unfamiliar codebase or domain — you use AI tooling actively to orient, explore, and contribute quickly, not just as a side assistant. AI-first approach to development: you build, test, and ship through AI tools as the primary workflow, and read model output critically to hold the engineering bar. Professional English — required for cross-functional collaboration in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
  • Nice-to-have Experience with desktop application development or OS-level programming. Familiarity with Avalonia UI or other cross-platform .NET UI frameworks. Background building or evolving AI-assisted engineering workflows at team level (prompting strategies, code review checklists, CI integration). Experience with GitLab-based delivery pipelines.

What we offer
At TaxDome, we aim to create an environment where people can do their best work and grow alongside the company.

  • Competitive compensation, paid in USD, transparently shared before the first interview
  • Fully remote work with flexible hours
  • 30 paid days off annually, plus sick days as needed
  • Health & well-being support
  • Learning & development budget to support your professional growth
  • English lessons reimbursement
  • Co-working space reimbursement
  • Company-provided equipment (conditions may vary depending on the role)
  • A high level of autonomy and ownership in your work
  • The opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-growing global SaaS company
  • A collaborative, international team with a strong product mindset

Upon successful completion of the interview process and acceptance of the offer to join, an employment verification check will be conducted as part of pre-boarding — confirming job titles and dates of engagement with 2 of your previous employers. This is a required step for all new joiners.

If you're excited about this opportunity and believe you could make an impact at TaxDome, we'd love to hear from you - https://careers.taxdome.com/v/216971-engineering-manager !
