About the job
About TaxDome
At TaxDome, we’re building the #1 practice management platform for accounting firms in the US and globally. Founded in 2017, we’ve grown into a 400+ fully remote team across 40+ countries, serving tens of thousands of businesses worldwide with millions of end clients.
How we work
You’ll be part of a globally distributed team built on trust, ownership, and self-management.
We focus on outcomes over activity, prioritizing clear ownership, pragmatic decision-making, and accountability for results over rigid processes. Collaboration is central to how we operate: we communicate openly, involve the right people early, and continuously improve how we build products and teams together.
About this role
We’re looking for a detail-oriented, methodical Controller to own our accounting function, with primary responsibility for the month-end close and our core accounting systems.
This is a hands-on, accounting-focused role centered on technical accounting, close operations, and strengthening our controllership function as the company scales.
This is a fully remote role. Strong U.S. GAAP experience is required, and you are likely based outside the U.S. Meaningful overlap with U.S. business hours is a plus.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Own the month-end close end to end, driving the timeline, journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial records.
- Own the chart of accounts, including its structure, governance, and ongoing simplification.
- Lead general ledger consolidation and simplification across entities.
- Own journal-entry and booking geography, defining where and how entries are recorded across the ledger and entities.
- Apply and uphold US GAAP across accounting policies, judgments, and disclosures.
- Lead the annual external audit, acting as the primary point of contact, preparing schedules, and managing the process through clean and timely completion.
- Own sales tax compliance and reporting, including management of the third-party tax collection and filing system.
- Collaborate closely with the payroll team on payroll accounting, ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and timely close inputs.
- Own and optimize our core accounting systems, including QuickBooks Online, Ramp and/or Brex, TaxWire, payroll systems, and their integrations.
- Own reconciliations across bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and their associated controls.
- Build, document, and continuously improve scalable and well-controlled accounting processes as the company grows.
- Manage and develop one direct report.
- Partner with the Finance Manager and FP&A team to ensure clean reporting handoffs.
- Support and help lead a future ERP implementation or migration.
- Use AI to support the month-end close, reconciliations, adversarial reviews, transaction matching, and similar accounting work.
- Automate policies and workflows, including expense approvals and documentation requests, so the accounting function can scale through systems and AI rather than manual effort.
- Use AI and data tools to identify patterns, improve transaction-matching quality, and continuously strengthen accounting processes.
What you bring
Must-have
- Deep, hands-on US GAAP expertise.
- Proven ownership of the full-cycle month-end close.
- Experience leading or managing an external audit.
- Hands-on experience with modern accounting technology, including QuickBooks Online, Ramp, and/or Brex.
- Familiarity with US sales tax compliance and reporting.
- Experience with payroll and payroll accounting while working alongside a payroll team.
- People-management experience, including responsibility for at least one direct report.
- A strong internal-controls mindset and a habit of documenting processes.
- A detail-oriented, methodical, and highly organized approach to work.
- Excellent written communication and self-organization in a fully remote environment.
- Proven experience adopting AI or data tools in a professional setting.
- Strong curiosity and a drive to automate workflows and scale output.
- A belief that AI should increase quality and leverage, not just speed.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with an ERP implementation or migration.
- CPA or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience in the SaaS or high-growth technology industry.
- Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
