ABOUT BLUE OCEAN
Blue Ocean is a premium study abroad consulting firm helping Indian students gain admission to the
world's top universities, including the Ivy League, Oxbridge, and leading institutions across the US,
UK, Canada, and Europe. Our work is mentorship-led and outcome-driven. We develop the student
first, and admissions follow.
Blue Ocean was founded by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Harvard graduate and Founding Country Director of
the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University.
THE ROLE
Top universities want students who have done real work, not just scored well. That is where you come
in.
As Research Associate, you will guide our high school students through genuine research and
innovation projects in physics, mathematics, and engineering. You will help a student go from a vague
interest ("I like space" or "I want to build things") to a serious, well-executed project: a research
paper, a working prototype, an olympiad-level exploration, or a submission to a recognised
competition or journal.
You will work closely with Dr. Sanjay Kumar and the counseling team, and directly with students and
their families. Your job is to make each student's intellectual work credible, distinctive, and genuinely
their own.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Mentor high school students one-on-one through research and innovation projects in physics, maths, and engineering.
- Help students frame research questions, design methodology, run experiments or build prototypes, and write up their work to a high standard.
- Act as the bridge between our students and external mentors: identify the right professors, researchers, and industry experts for each project, make the connection, and keep the collaboration productive on both sides.
- Guide students toward the right platforms: research journals for young scholars, science fairs, olympiads, hackathons, and summer research programs.
- Stay current on what top universities value in a STEM applicant's profile, and shape projects accordingly.
- Track each student's progress against timelines and keep the counseling team and parents informed.
- Build a growing library of project ideas, mentors, and opportunities that Blue Ocean students can draw on.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- A Master's degree or PhD in physics, mathematics, or an engineering discipline. A research background, published work, or olympiad experience is a real advantage.
- Someone who genuinely enjoys working with teenagers and can make hard ideas exciting rather than intimidating.
- Strong written and spoken English. You will be writing with students and speaking with parents.
- The discipline to manage several students and timelines at once without being chased.
- Curiosity across fields. Our students' interests will stretch you, and that should sound like fun.
HOW TO APPLY
Write to [email protected] with your CV and a short cover note telling us about one
piece of research or one project you are proud of, and why. Write it in your own words. We read
every note.
Apply at the earliest. We will move fast with the right candidate.
