Earlston Academy is seeking experienced Software Engineers from leading technology companies to join our instructor network and help prepare students for successful careers in software engineering.
This is a part-time, cohort-based instructional role designed for professionals who want to share their expertise while maintaining flexibility in their careers.
About the Role
As a Software Engineering Instructor, you will develop and deliver practical, industry-focused training that helps students build real-world engineering skills and become job-ready.
You will work closely with Earlston Academy's academic team to create engaging course content aligned with our curriculum framework and industry standards.
This is not a traditional full-time teaching position. Instructors are engaged on a per-cohort basis, and teaching opportunities are based on enrollment demand and program scheduling.
Responsibilities
Curriculum Development
Design and develop course materials aligned with Earlston Academy curriculum standards
Create presentations, assignments, coding exercises, projects, assessments, and learning resources
Update course content to reflect current industry practices and emerging technologies
Ensure course outcomes align with employer expectations and workforce needs
Instruction & Student Engagement
Deliver live virtual instruction for assigned cohorts
Facilitate discussions, workshops, and hands-on coding sessions
Provide guidance on software engineering best practices
Support students through office hours, Q&A sessions, and mentoring opportunities
Foster an engaging and inclusive learning environment
Career Readiness Support
Share practical insights from real-world engineering experience
Help students understand technical interview processes
Provide feedback on portfolios, projects, and GitHub repositories
Discuss industry trends, engineering culture, and career growth strategies
Program Collaboration
Work with academic leadership to improve course effectiveness
Participate in instructor onboarding and training sessions
Recommend curriculum enhancements based on industry developments
Maintain high instructional quality and student satisfaction

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)

Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, or related technologies
Experience using AI tools, APIs, automation platforms, or machine learning applications
Strong communication and presentation skills
Ability to teach technical concepts to beginner and intermediate learners
