Content Writer

$50K/year writing from home, preventing cruelty to animals with 600MillionDogs.org. Seeking a perfectionist writer for professional communications with activists, scientists, donors and government officials. We are a science-driven nonprofit working to end the cycle of suffering for over one billion homeless animals each year through cruelty-free, cutting-edge science. We are seeking a perfectionist, emotionally compelling writer who craves a rewarding career writing meaningful, preventing-cruelty-to- animals communications. Must be fluent with the culture of the animal rights and animal welfare community. Applicants who have never written for an animal protection organization before will likely not be a match.

Required Qualifications
a) Proven writing experience with animal protection, animal welfare, or animal rights organisations.
b) Ability to effectively research and understand U.S. federal and state legislative processes and the U.S. criminal justice process.
c) Demonstrated experience writing donor communications and stewardship messages.
d) Independent problem-solving skills, strong research skills, attention to detail.
e) Familiarity with SEO and digital content optimisation.
f) Experience using email platforms (e.g., Constant Contact) and content management tools. g) Passion for animal protection and the ability to collaborate across many time zones.

Key Responsibilities
a) Edit all written communications for the nonprofit to ensure clarity, accuracy and consistency.
b) Writing highly persuasive advocacy email newsletters, petitions, etc.
c) Legislative and Judicial Research - to use in email newsletters, etc.
d) Write and oversee all manner of public and donor communications to ensure perfection.
e) Implement SEO best practices, keyword and content optimization, etc.
