About CASPR

CASPR (caspr.org) is a research and policy organization dedicated to reducing the global burden of addiction through scalable science-based interventions. We advance evidence-based practices, run research and clinical studies, and shape policy to find a cure for substance use disorders. Our advisory board includes some of the most well-known international experts in the field. Our work was recently featured in STAT, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.

CASPR is unique in the field of addiction medicine and policy. We operate at the intersection of pharmaceutical policy, drug development, philanthropy, technology, and public health, pushing for high-leverage evidence-based approaches to the addiction crisis.

About this role

CASPR is hiring a Community & Partnerships Manager to help make CASPR one of the best-known organizations working on addiction and systems change among leaders in AI, philanthropy, and the broader San Francisco technology ecosystem. This person will be CASPR's bridge for the AI, EA-adjacent, frontier-tech, and philanthropy communities.

This is a highly social, externally facing role for someone who loves meeting people, building relationships, attending events, making thoughtful introductions, and turning loose networks into meaningful partnerships. The right person will be a natural connector: charismatic, organized, intellectually curious, and excited to represent CASPR in the rooms where the future is being built. They have strong social intuition, understand how trust moves through networks, and can make CASPR feel relevant in the right rooms.

You will attend events across San Francisco, build relationships with people in AI and philanthropy, help organize CASPR-hosted gatherings, and manage follow-up so that promising relationships are converted into real opportunities for CASPR. This is not a remote role. The person must be based in San Francisco and excited to be out in the community several nights a week.

What you'll do
• Build CASPR's presence and reputation within the San Francisco AI, EA-adjacent, technology, and philanthropy ecosystems.
• Attend relevant events across San Francisco, including AI, philanthropy, health, policy, founder, and technology gatherings, typically 3+ nights per week.
• Identify the highest-leverage rooms, dinners, salons, group chats, and communities where CASPR should be present.
• Represent CASPR in external conversations with warmth, intelligence, and credibility.
• Identify and cultivate promising relationships with AI founders, researchers, operators, philanthropists, funders, and community leaders.
• Track relationship pipelines and ensure timely, thoughtful follow-up after meetings, events, and introductions.
• Draft follow-up emails, event invitations, donor or partner briefs, and short written materials tailored to specific audiences.
• Help organize and host CASPR events, including monthly or biweekly salons, dinners, small gatherings, and larger community events.
• Work with the Managing Director and Development Director to identify which relationships should be advanced toward funding, partnerships, advisory roles, or other forms of support.
• Help map the San Francisco AI and philanthropy ecosystems and identify the highest-leverage people, communities, events, and institutions for CASPR to engage.
• Use AI tools and tech to improve outreach, research, pipeline management, and communications.

What you'll need
• Approximately 1-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent demonstrated ability, in community building, partnerships, sales, development, communications, events, startups, nonprofits, or a related field.
• A natural networker who genuinely enjoys meeting new people, going to events, building friendships, and staying connected.
• Strong interest in AI, philanthropy, systems change, public health, and addiction.
• Enough fluency with AI and effective philanthropy to hold credible conversations with founders, researchers, funders, and operators.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to quickly explain CASPR's mission in a compelling, accessible way.
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft polished emails, invitations, short briefs, and follow-up notes.
• High social intelligence, good judgment, and the ability to represent CASPR professionally with founders, funders, researchers, operators, and community leaders.
• Excellent organization and follow-through; able to manage many relationships, details, and next steps at once.
• Comfortable operating in a lean nonprofit startup-style environment where priorities evolve quickly and initiative matters.
• Tech savvy and comfortable using Google Suite, AI tools, and lightweight systems for relationship management, research, and communications.
• Based in San Francisco, with a strong preference for someone already active in or excited to become deeply embedded in the local AI and technology ecosystem.
• Comfortable with frequent evening events, dinners, and occasional weekend commitments.
• High alignment with CASPR's mission and interest in reducing addiction at scale through science, policy, technology, and systems change.

Details
• Location: San Francisco, CA only (not remote)
• Reports to: Managing Director
• Compensation: Market rate, commensurate with experience
• Type: Contract-to-hire; title is negotiable depending on candidate
