About the job

About Exponent

Exponent helps people land their dream jobs. We've built an all-in-one interview preparation platform with written and video courses, peer-to-peer practice tools, and insider knowledge of the most challenging interview questions at the world’s leading companies.

We’ve helped 1M+ product managers, software engineers, technical program managers, product designers, solutions architects, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and more in their interviews at Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, and hundreds of other popular companies.

We also partner with top universities, including Stanford, Yale, Duke, MIT, and more, to help students get great jobs after graduation.

About the Role

We're looking for a Video Manager & Creator to own and grow Exponent's YouTube and short-form presence.

This includes channel strategy and the videos that ship every week.

This is a hands-on, on-camera role that combines two skill sets:

  • The YouTube channel manager runs the production engine, owns video SEO and posting cadence, and thinks like a YouTuber.
  • The creator films and publishes a high volume of content across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and LinkedIn. Think of it as a one-person newsroom meets creator, where you are the person in front of the camera, moving fast and making things people actually want to watch.

This is a role about filming and publishing, not editing.

We have separate production support for heavy post-production. You'll do light trims and assembly to get content out the door, but your time goes into being on camera, capturing footage, and shipping to social.

Because our content covers technical topics (software engineering interviews, system design, data science, and more), you need a CS-adjacent background.

You know what a system design interview is and you have opinions about FAANG and frontier AI labs. That fluency is essential for deciding what content to create, how to title and position it, and what to repurpose.

This role starts at roughly 20 hours per week, with a path to full-time.

What You'll Do

Film & Publish (the core of the role)

  • Be on camera. Host, record intros, deliver punchy takes, and front original content yourself.
  • Own a content pipeline end to end. Script, shoot, and publish multiple short-form videos per week across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and LinkedIn. This supports our long-form YouTube cadence.
  • Mine our back catalog. Dig through Exponent's YouTube library. We have thousands of hours of mock interviews, expert insights, and career frameworks. You’ll surface the moments worth clipping and reposting.
  • Run the newsroom format. When something happens in tech hiring ("Google just announced AI-assisted coding rounds for SWEs"), you turn it into a punchy, accurate, shareable video within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Stay on the pulse. Track what's trending in tech, the creator space, and across platforms. Bring new formats and ideas to the team before they're stale.

Channel & Content Operations

  • Own and maintain the Video Engine board (our production tracker). It should be 100% accurate at the end of each week, reflecting the status of every video so anyone on the team can check it and know exactly what's happening and what's coming next.
  • Get us to a 2x weekly posting cadence on long-form, plus a daily short-form drumbeat.
  • Engage with our audience by responding to comments, publishing community posts, and maintaining a consistent channel voice that reflects our brand.
  • Connect with curriculum stakeholders to determine which videos need accompanying curriculum versions behind our website paywall.

SEO & Title Optimization

  • Use YouTube SEO best practices and search-powered tools to identify high-performing title candidates for new videos.
  • Run A/B tests on titles and thumbnails to maximize click-through and discoverability.

Talent & Content Development

  • Source and manage video hosts to increase production output. Be comfortable prepping hosts with notes, questions, and outlines for filming.
  • Pitch and produce new video ideas, getting buy-in from the team to bring them to life.
  • Maintain Exponent's quality standards across everything published.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Channel growth. We track views and subscriber growth rate for our target audience segments, and revenue is not a priority metric.
  • Short-form output and reach. We track views, completions, and engagement across Shorts, Reels, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
  • Down-funnel signups and sales. We track these across all videos and links in Mixpanel.
  • Performance reporting. You report on performance in Notion and Slack on a regular cadence.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Technical fluency. You have CS-adjacent experience or familiarity with software engineering, product management, data, and similar fields. You understand the topics our audience cares about and can make smart content decisions.
  • YouTube channel sense. You understand the platform's mechanics, including algorithm behavior, click-through rate, audience retention, SEO, thumbnails, and posting cadence.
  • Comfortable on camera. This is a front-of-camera role, and you are willing and able to host, present, and be the face of our content.
  • Short-form creator instincts. You make short-form video for yourself, for school, or for someone else, and you are good at it. You can write a sharp hook and move fast.
  • You can ship. The goal is volume with quality, not perfection at low volume. You are self-directed and do not need someone handing you topics every week.

Preferred

  • YouTube channel management experience. You have managed or grown a channel before.
  • An existing presence on social platforms. You already post on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or LinkedIn, even if your following is small.
  • Marketing or growth experience. You are familiar with growth strategy, audience development, or content marketing.
  • Comfort with AI tools. You have experience using Claude or similar AI tools to accelerate your workflows. We manage hundreds of videos and need someone who works efficiently at scale.
  • Familiarity with Notion and Mixpanel. You have used these or similar project management and analytics tools.
  • Firsthand familiarity with the tech interview process. You have been through it as a candidate, as a student who has prepped, or as someone who has worked in tech.

Your First 90 Days

Month 1: Learn the Engine

Get fully comfortable with our video production workflow, including how content is scheduled, posted, and moved through the Video Engine. Build clarity on our processes, standards, and team dynamics.

Month 2: Activate the Back Catalog

Turn existing long-form content into short-form clips. Your goal is to leverage our back catalog to film, package, and post one short-form video per day across platforms.

Month 3: Drive New Content

Begin pitching and filming original video ideas, including the newsroom-style takes on tech hiring. Get buy-in from the team and bring new content to life. This includes flagging where we need new hosts and proposing topics you believe will perform well strategically.

Month 4 and Beyond: Full-Time

Here is what a full-time role looks like:

  • You publish two long-form videos per week on our YouTube channel, including mock interviews and scripted content, and you post daily across all of our social media channels.
  • You own success metrics across all channels, and you proactively report channel growth, opportunities, and blockers to the team.
  • You present opportunities to grow beyond your own capacity, such as hiring UGC creators, reaching out to additional video hosts, and managing short-form video editors to grow our content output.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Hours. This role starts at roughly 20 hours per week, with a path to full-time based on your success in the role.
  • Location. This is a remote role, open to candidates in the US only.
  • Compensation. The rate is $30-37.50 per hour.

To Apply

  • Include your resume and/or LinkedIn profile.
  • Include one to three short-form videos you have made, preferably tech-related, along with links to any YouTube channels you have managed or contributed to, with growth metrics if available.
  • Include a quick pitch that describes a video you would make in your first week at Exponent and why.
