POSITION OVERVIEW

CO/STUDIOS is seeking a Senior Backend Developer for Shopify to architect, build, and maintain the backend systems that power ecommerce operations across our portfolio companies and client brands.
This role is focused on solving complex business and operational challenges through technology. You will work closely with founders, operators, strategists, and development teams to design scalable solutions that connect critical business systems, automate workflows, improve operational efficiency, and support rapid growth.
The ideal candidate has deep experience within the Shopify ecosystem and understands how backend architecture directly impacts customer experience, operational performance, and business scalability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Architect and maintain robust, scalable backend solutions for CO/STUDIOS and its clients on Shopify and Shopify Plus, supporting headless commerce and modern infrastructure.
Design, build, and manage complex integrations between Shopify and third-party ecosystems for CO/STUDIOS brands (ERP, CRM, OMS, fulfillment, marketing).
Develop custom middleware, APIs, workflow automations, and data flows to optimize operational efficiency and business visibility.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams at CO/STUDIOS to identify business challenges, provide technical leadership, and deliver high-performance, secure solutions.
Define and uphold engineering standards through technical planning, code reviews, documentation, and mentorship.
Troubleshoot complex system issues for CO/STUDIOS across multi-platform environments to ensure reliability and scalability.

QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years focused on the Shopify Plus ecosystem and APIs (GraphQL, REST, webhooks).
Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and modern backend frameworks for building scalable distributed systems.
Proven expertise in designing complex system integrations between ecommerce platforms and ERP, CRM, OMS, or fulfillment providers.
Deep understanding of database design, API architecture, and workflow automation/middleware solutions.
Experience managing high-volume operations within cloud infrastructure environments like AWS or Google Cloud.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on diagnosing and resolving multi-system technical issues.
Effective communicator capable of collaborating with both technical teams and executive leadership in a fast-paced startup environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Modern Shopify & Composable Commerce:
Shopify Hydrogen & Oxygen, headless and composable commerce architectures.
System Architecture & Infrastructure:
Event-driven systems, microservices, AWS Lambda/serverless, and containerized applications.
Enterprise Ecosystems & Data:
ERP platforms (NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics), subscription platforms (Recharge), and data warehousing/business intelligence pipelines, with a preference for candidates who have supported brands generating $1M+ in annual revenue.
