About the job
Backend Software Engineer
$180K–$260K + Equity
📍 San Francisco, CA | On-site
💼 Full-Time | Early-Stage Startup
We’re building an agentic operations platform for Property & Casualty insurance, helping automate the manual, repetitive, and error-prone workflows that still slow down insurance agencies today.
This is a foundational engineering role for someone who enjoys hard backend problems, automation-heavy systems, messy real-world integrations, and building from zero to one.
What you’ll do
Build end-to-end agentic workflows that automate insurance agency operations.
Design and ship backend systems, processing pipelines, integrations, and automation infrastructure from scratch.
Work closely with early customers to understand operational pain points and turn them into reliable technical solutions.
Integrate with fragmented, outdated, or poorly documented systems across carrier portals, emails, desktop apps, proprietary tools, and legacy workflows.
Help shape the tech stack, architecture, internal tooling, and engineering processes as the product evolves.
Own projects across the full development lifecycle, from discovery and design to implementation, launch, and iteration.
What we’re looking for
4+ years of professional backend or backend-leaning full-stack engineering experience.
Experience building backend systems, AI products, processing pipelines, or integrations with external systems.
Strong ownership, autonomy, and comfort solving ambiguous technical problems.
Early-stage startup experience or experience in a fast-moving, unstructured environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Located in or willing to relocate to the Bay Area for a full-time on-site role in San Francisco.
Nice to have
Experience with web scraping, email scraping, browser automation, or creatively extracting data from hard-to-reach places.
TypeScript or JavaScript experience.
Experience integrating with low-tech industries, legacy systems, poorly documented APIs, or systems with no APIs at all.
Experience building automation-heavy products, agentic workflows, or workflow infrastructure.
This is a high-impact opportunity to join a fast-growing startup solving hard backend and automation problems in a massive, underserved industry.
