About the Role

We’re seeking a Volunteer Mobile App Developer with experience in Flutter or React Native to join our BawaHealth team.
You’ll collaborate with backend engineers, designers, and product leads to build a smooth, user-friendly telemedicine experience for both doctors and patients.

This is a volunteer position — ideal for developers eager to gain real-world experience in startup environments, strengthen their portfolio, and contribute to a meaningful digital health initiative in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain mobile apps for patients and doctors using Flutter or React Native.
Integrate backend APIs built on Fastify (Node.js) for authentication, booking, and consultations.
Implement secure login, onboarding, chat, and video consultation workflows
Collaborate with designers to transform UI/UX mockups into functional, high-performance code.
Test, debug, and optimize app performance across Android and iOS devices.
Work with the backend and DevOps teams to ensure stable, reliable integrations.
Participate in code reviews and agile development sprints.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Proficiency in Flutter (Dart) or React Native (JavaScript/TypeScript).
Strong grasp of RESTful API integration and mobile data management.
Familiarity with authentication, real-time communication, and secure storage.
Experience with Firebase for push notifications or messaging (optional).
Understanding of Git, GitHub, and mobile deployment workflows.
Ability to troubleshoot and optimize app performance.
Clear communication, adaptability, and collaborative mindset.

Bonus Points
Experience integrating video calling SDKs (e.g., Daily.co, Jitsi, or Agora).
Familiarity with Fastify-based APIs or Node.js backend communication.
Experience in healthcare, telemedicine, or social impact apps.
Understanding of state management (Bloc, Redux, MobX, etc.).
