About the job
We believe that the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and experiences that thousands of developers use to create their own products. Plaid powers the tools millions of people rely on to live a healthier financial life. We work with thousands of companies like Venmo, SoFi, several of the Fortune 500, and many of the largest banks to make it easy for people to connect their financial accounts to the apps and services they want to use. Plaid’s network covers 12,000 financial institutions across the US, Canada, UK and Europe. Founded in 2013, the company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in New York, Washington D.C., London and Amsterdam.
Security owns and maintains core security primitives that enable products and services to be launched quickly and safely. We believe security should be enabled by default across all of Plaid.
Security Engineering is a software engineering team within Security that focuses on developing scalable, highly available, industry-leading security services and infrastructure for Plaid. This team is responsible for secure data storage and loss prevention, key management, identity platform, internal authentication systems (employee, device, and service authentication), internal permission management, and access control. The team also owns several critical services such as Key Management System, Secure Token Service, Sensitive Information Store, Zero Trust Access Gateway, Internal Permissions Dashboard, Internal Authorization Service, and the Vulnerability Management platform.
We are looking for a dynamic engineering leader to support building secure products and infrastructure for the next phase of growth and innovation for Plaid. This role plays a critical cross-functional role across engineering in the execution and delivery of security primitives, services, and infrastructure to support the technology initiatives driving the growth of the business.
Responsibilities
- Leading a skilled software engineering team to deliver on increasingly impactful and ambitious objectives across many security domains, including: Zero Trust, Data Security, Identity and Access Management, Data Loss Prevention, Vulnerability Management, and Supply Chain Security and Integrity.
- End-to-end ownership of comprehensive security controls that scale across Plaid’s microservices and data platforms and enable efficient and secure product delivery.
- Developing a strategy to support Plaid’s business objectives through customer-centric engineering solutions.
- Advise on, contribute to, and drive the security vision and strategy at Plaid.
- Applying previous experience to provide guidance, mentorship, and growth for team members.
- Following changes in the state of security as an industry, and maintaining up to date knowledge of offensive threats, defensive techniques, and best practices.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software development, preferably with a focus on security. This role requires significant technical depth and breadth.
- Demonstrated ability to manage engineering teams effectively, with a focus on technical excellence.
- Effective people management skills, including strategy and goal setting, prioritization, cross-team coordination, and continuous feedback.
- Broad knowledge of offensive threats, defensive techniques, and security best practices.
- Proven ability to both influence and get things done within your team as well as cross-functionally across the organization.
