Position Summary
- The Director of ERCA is is responsible for consolidating all the financial data from BUs into Group reports. To manage external audits and the process for preparation and publication of all external reports, disclosures, press releases and other supporting materials for external reporting, both for the Group in order to provide reports and recommendations on VEON’s financial performance, ensuring VEON external reporting is compliance and correct and to give recommendations to the GEC, Audit Committee allowing them to make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- The Director ERCA leads the External Reporting, Consolidation and Corporate Accounting teams to manage the last mile of finance and ensure compliance with US reporting requirements. The Director effectively leads a team of 11 finance professionals, including 8 team members in the Shared Service
- He/she will develop a strong relationship with the company Senior Management, external providers and company auditor to drive VEON Group Reporting and Accounting matters
- In addition, he/she will provide functional leadership to the Accounting and reporting managers and team in the ERCA function, head office, and Head of accounting at he operating units worldwide to realize a clear and well communicated Accounting and reporting strategy throughout the world supported by up to date policies and procedures.
- External reporting in the US (SEC), including management of inputs from other functions (Treasury, Tax, Legal) and stakeholder management (Group CFO, Board Audit Committee)
- Review and approval of a number of key external and internal reports, ensuring they provide a fair representation of the financial situation
- Provide direction to the team to continue innovating the existing processes and tools, ensuring alignment with future planning and timely recognizing the required changes.
The Director of ERCA promotes and facilitates a culture of transparency and risk awareness and financial reporting controls
External Reporting
Prepare financial statements, Group reporting pack and other external communication for bond offerings
Manage the timely and accurate preparation of financial documentation for external reporting purposes at the Group and BU level including the preparation of quarterly press releases (in alignment with investor relations function)
Interpret the monthly, quarterly and annual reports on financial performance, to provide insights on VEON’s performance
Identify critical issues at the Group and BU level and escalate to enable report submission
Valuations, inc. financial modeling (e.g. for impairments, PPAs etc. reviewing business plans and adjacent value drivers)
Support with capital market transactions (e.g. IPOs and debt issuances), M&A transactions (inc. group restructuring, acquisitions and disposals) and Corporate Finance, Investor Relations and other teams
Statutory reporting for HQ entities
Managing international teams (25-30 people)
Group consolidation
Managing the accurate technical consolidations of financial BU figures in preparation of external and internal reporting
IFRS and Accounting Manual, Policies and Procedures
IFRS methodology and compliance across the VEON group including the VEON Accounting Manual
Training preparation in alignment with the quarterly accounting forum
External Audits:
Main contact for external auditors
Ensure an effective management of the auditing process performed by external auditors
Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley controls are effective/maintained in the consolidation and reporting process
Escalate and ensure solutions to all technical accounting and audit-related matters
Responsible for all critical accounting position papers
Special Projects:
Lead and participate in any special projects as requested by the Group Director Financial Control
Act as a finance business partner and perform financial impact assessment for strategic initiatives and projects within the Group
Tooling :
Custodian of the ERCA tools utilized globally (Innosys) and at HQ (Workiva) managing relationship with the vendors, contract and maintenance of the tools.
Critical Skills & Experience
- ACCA, CPA and Master/University degree in Finance
- At least 12 to 15 years of demonstrated, progressive experience in accounting and reporting in a complex corporate environment;
- Strong leader with cultural awareness able to work in a fast pace and changing environment, self-motivating able to cope with ambiguity .
- Ability to work with all levels of management and staff, maintain the highest degree of confidentiality, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills;
- High level of intellectual curiosity, self-motivated to solve difficult issues, continually seeking ways to improve.
- Management experience. Ability to direct staff and peers to accomplish business goals and develop toward professional goals.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship management skills; strong presentation skills with ability to articulate complex concepts and influence decision-making.
