The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician III to join our Graham Construction Team.
In this role, you will:
⦁ Serve as a lead project inspector.
⦁ Support senior engineers in the administration of medium to large highway construction projects.
⦁ Monitor daily project progress and resolve constructability issues to maintain project schedules.
⦁ Direct and schedule work of technicians staking out and inspecting every phase of construction projects to ensure they are built according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
⦁ Manage all aspects of construction projects with limited supervision from senior engineers.
⦁ Supervise and train technicians, including NCDOT staff and contract inspectors.
⦁ Apply independent decision-making and use of good engineering and project management judgement.
What You Bring
⦁ Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
⦁ Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
⦁ Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
⦁ Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
⦁ Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
⦁ Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
⦁ Ability to document and take corrective actions.
⦁ You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
⦁ Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes, and other recordkeeping items manually and electronically.
⦁ Math skills to perform construction-related calculations.
⦁ Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling and MSHA Certifications.
⦁ Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
⦁ Ability to work in high traffic areas, and at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
⦁ Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
⦁ Safety toe shoes.
⦁ Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
⦁ Ability to obtain and maintain certifications to perform material sampling and testing.
⦁ Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, as needed.
Education and Experience
⦁ Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
⦁ 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
