Reporting to RAB's Director of Industrial Design, as Senior Industrial Designer, you'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and human-centered design, creating award-winning lighting solutions that transform spaces and enhance how people experience their environment. Who You Are:

  • A Bright, Creative and Conceptual Thinker, with the ability to work with others and empathetically navigate different professional mindsets while balancing aesthetic vision with mechanical feasibility
  • A Successful Collaborator, with the technical literacy to communicate design intent through appropriate mechanical considerations, but also the emotional intelligence to translate experiential goals into terms that resonate with engineering priorities
  • A Design Expert, with 3D CAD experience, preferably CREO
  • A Multi-Tasker, with project and time management skills, and a sense of urgency.
  • An Excellent Communicator and Presenter, who can read when to stand firm on design elements critical to user experience versus where to be flexible for engineering feasibility, ultimately engaging in collaborative problem-solving that acknowledges and respects both disciplines' expertise.
  • A Mentor to others, with the ability to motivate and inspire creativity

What You'll Do:

You'll design innovative products and take the designs from concept through implementation working collaboratively to meet deadlines and deliverables. Including but not limited to:

  • Presenting to convey design intent and concept connected to business need and product specifications.
  • Partnering closely with internal and external teams, including but not limited to engineering and marketing.
  • Communicating ideas through sketching and other forms of visual communication in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding the customer and installers, commercial indoor, outdoor lighting, EV charging and control systems so that functional aspects can be considered along with aesthetic needs and cost objectives.
  • Gaining knowledge of the commercial lighting business, maintaining awareness of existing products and products offered by competitor businesses.
  • Staying informed about trends color, materials, and processes. Includes maintaining knowledge of design software and new technologies to effectively convey design concepts.
  • Managing industrial design and user experience portions of a project and assisting Design Director in design strategy
  • Creating diverse ideas to inspire and stimulate meaningful products.
  • Participating in new product development strategic activities which include generation of new product concepts and innovative ideas.
  • Meeting with customers and installers.
  • Determining appropriate approaches and executing design research, product concept drawings, physical modeling, renderings/visualizations, and product presentations.
  • Developing and maintaining familiarity with materials and processes used in the industry and the manufacturing of RAB Lighting products.
