About the job
CX2 is a next-generation defense technology company founded to deliver spectrum dominance for the United States and our allies. CX2’s AI-enabled hardware and software platforms detect, disrupt and defend the electromagnetic spectrum across land, air, sea and space domains.
Role
We are seeking a backend software engineer with 3 - 5+ years of experience who is passionate about advancing electromagnetic spectrum capabilities. In this role you will collaborate across hardware and software teams to design, develop, and maintain core software capabilities for our suite of electronic warfare products. As part of CX2’s foundational engineering team, your expertise and creativity will influence how we enhance our core software stack, deepen our engineering culture, and deliver powerful electromagnetic capabilities to the warfighter.
Such electromagnetic capabilities require software that ingests high volume data streams from multiple sensors and platforms, performs low latency data fusion and model inference, and exposes actionable spectrum insights to operators and other systems. To own these projects from inception to deployment, candidates should have strong experience in scaleable backend development, fluency with cutting-edge tooling and best practices, and a proven ability to ship high-quality products quickly.
Responsibilities
- Leverage appropriate languages or enabling technologies for the customers' needs.
- Work with users to identify problems, define requirements, and translate concepts into technical solutions.
- Collaborate across design, business development, and other engineering teams to ship functional applications.
- Provide code review, mentorship, and education to team members.
- Seek out mentorship from the CX2 team and broader network.
- Leverage Git and CI/CD pipelines to develop and deploy clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Optimize software products for scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
Requirements
- Has architected data intensive, containerized backend services using Python, Golang, Rust, C++, GraphQL, and/or Node.js/Express.js.
- Experience communicating between microservices, clients, and servers using Apache Kafka, ActiveMQ/RabbitMQ, protobuf, and gPRC.
- Has implemented structured and unstructured databases in the cloud and on edge hardware.
- Has supported low latency front-end interfaces built with React, HTML/CSS, and TypeScript.
- Experience deploying and managing infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- Has an understanding of possible technical trade offs forced by DDIL connectivity or SWAP-C constrained environments.
- Must be able to work extended hours for mission critical deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with geospatial software such as MapBox/MapLibre, Cesium, MapTiler, or ATAK.
- Experience developing applications that function offline or do not require constant internet access.
- Familiarity with enterprise Kubernetes distributions like Rancher RKE2, RedHat OpenShift, or Amazon EKS.
- Experience with software telemetry/observability tools like DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk.
- Familiarity with government cloud offerings (AWS, GCP, Azure) and software accreditation processes (FedRAMP, Impact Level (IL) 4-6).
