Founding Engineer

Mongo App is the first ever personal AI financial coach tailored for young adults. Founded by LBS MBA and UPenn alum Alisha Chowdhury, Mongo has distinguished itself by winning multiple hackathons and pitch competitions. Mongo is backed by a Founder’s Factory and Aviva Group, the UK’s largest insurance company.

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Founding Engineer to join our team. As the Founding Engineer/CTO, you will be the technical leader and product-focused visionary, driving the development and implementation. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with our team to build and enhance our products.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the technical strategy and direction for Mongo App, ensuring alignment with our business goals and vision.
2. Oversee the development and implementation of AI solutions, specifically suggesting things like Retrieval-Augmented Generation or other advanced model building using open-source LLMs and internal data.
3. Collaborate with the founding team to define product features, roadmap, and overall strategy.
4. Roll up your sleeves and actively participate in coding, debugging, and product development.
5. Manage and mentor a small team of developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
6. Ensure the scalability, security, and performance of our products.
7. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, incorporating them into our product development process.

Technical Requirements:

1. Proven experience building in a startup environment.
2. Strong background in AI and ML, can be your field of study or you have worked in the space.
3. Proficiency in working with Retrieval-Augmented Generation or other open-source Large Language Models. Or if you are open to learning, that works!
4. Experience with Google Cloud Platform, AWS and/or MongoDB for backend infrastructure.
5. Proficiency in React for web application development.
6. Experience with mobile app development.
7. Knowledge of web scraping techniques and tools.
8. Solid understanding of software development, architecture, and best practices.
9. Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects, with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
10. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
11. Passion for financial technology and a strong desire to make a positive impact on young adults' financial literacy.
