Opportunity:
Community Water of America (CWA), a subsidiary of Upwell Water, is a mission-driven water and wastewater utility service. CWA provides regulated water and wastewater utility services with a focus on health, safety, and managing critical infrastructure to improve the lives of its customers and the communities it serves. CWA is a fast-growing utility with line of sight to being a Top 10 privately owned utility platform in the US.
Highlights of Responsibilities:
You will join a small team responsible for an existing portfolio of assets as well as a multi-million dollar pipeline of opportunities. You will enjoy meaningful responsibility in a learning environment with a team of highly successful executives. Examples:
- Sourcing opportunities to purchase or finance new utility assets. That might include marketing initiatives, developing technology to find owners of water or treatment plants in need of our solutions, outbound phone calls, and more.
- Contributing to the investment and underwriting of utility acquisitions, including due diligence, financial modeling, legal review, documentation, negotiation, presenting, and deal execution.
- External business development, internal reporting and operations, scheduling and coordinating meetings, managing our transaction pipeline, various admin initiatives, researching new market opportunities, and generally doing what’s needed to grow the enterprise.
- Monitoring and evaluating industry trends, regulatory environment, and M&A activity across multiple states.
- Assisting in developing and implementing overall business development strategy, acquisition checklists, and best practices across the company.
Requirements and Ingredients for Success:
- Experience at a utility platform, top-tier project or infrastructure finance, private equity fund, or investment bank. Representative backgrounds could include project finance, renewable energy finance, hedge fund investing in related assets or sectors, private equity or direct lending, or lease and equipment finance. You should have experience modeling in Excel, and a sense for what is good value. We also welcome candidates from top-tier law and accounting firms with a background in utilities.
- College degree from a top-tier school is required, MBA or JD is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to network and build relationships
Personality: Personality and presence to lead a transaction and run calls and meetings. Fun, high-energy, positive attitude, able to do anything and above nothing.
Location: San Francisco strongly preferred. Other locations may be considered.
