About the job
Blackwing is looking for a backend engineer to join a small team on the quest to transform the future of finance. Our ideal candidate thrives on having full ownership over meaningful areas of the stack, solving difficult engineering problems, and shipping products that users will love.
You will join an all star team of engineers and product leaders from companies like Facebook, Robinhood and LinkedIn — together the team has scaled products to billions of people and millions in revenue. You will constantly be challenged, fostered, and motivated to grow to new heights.
Additionally, our non-dilutive token grant with early liquidity gives a significant edge in compensation over every other startup. If the company does well, you will be rewarded extremely well!
What is Blackwing?
Blackwing was founded on a simple idea: everyone should have the ability to access financial tools, regardless of where they are born and regardless of how experienced they are. With customers at the heart of every decision we make, Blackwing aims to build financial tooling that is safe, transparent, and intuitive for all.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop core products in a 0 to 1 environment.
- Design engineering systems to deliver product needs while making appropriate tradeoffs between complexity, scalability, security, and development time.
- Build an understanding of financial products to help inform product decisions.
- Help define Blackwing’s engineering culture and best practices.
Technologies We Use
- Golang
- Typescript / React
- Move / Solidity
- RocksDB
- Prometheus / Grafana
- AWS / Terraform
- Docker
Some Real Life Example of Engineering Challenges
- Building a messaging system which allows secure communication between a blockchain and an arbitrary distributed system.
- Building a matching engine which allows us to handle large amounts of data (order history, trades, positions, etc) while still offering the same sub millisecond transaction latency as an in-memory system.
- Designing a wallet sweeping mechanism that scales to thousands of wallets while keeping transaction costs low.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has a track record of successfully leading projects and delivering large scope technical projects at scale.
- Is deeply comfortable across different engineering disciplines and is confident diving into unknown areas.
- Is obsessive about developer experience. Consistently sets high standard for code quality, testing practices, and code review processes.
Benefits
- Work on some of the most interesting problems between the cross section of finance and engineering.
- Work with exceptional leaders from companies like Meta / Robinhood / LinkedIn. Each member of the team has individually helped grow products to billions of users and revenue!
- Competitive compensation package that includes tokens, equity, and cash.
- Good vibes.
Location
We converted a beatiful apartment in Williamsburg off of the Bedford Ave L stop into an office and mostly work from there — it feels more like a home with better amenities than you can find a typical office. You're welcome to work a few days remotely, but ideally, you're working with us in person.
Our Culture
- We value feedback — if you’re not growing, you’re growing weaker! We think feedback is a gift and a crucial tool to push us to be our better selves. You’re expected to not only receive feedback but also give feedback to anyone at the company
- We move fast — speed is in our DNA, from engineering, to iteration, to hiring. We’re always pushing the boundaries of how fast we can learn, grow and succeed.
- We expect excellence — from code, to design, to product analysis, we hold a high bar for ourselves and the product we build.
