Discord Developer/Engineer: Using Discord To Measure Community Health (Collaboration, Communication, and Prosocial-ity)

We are a gaming for health and wellbeing startup that uses DISCORD to run our distributed team of 70+. We are looking for an engineer to take our DISCORD server to the next level. We already use it for project/product management. We have tested Discord as a tool to measure and enhance prosocial and collaborative behavior within our community. We are ready to scale this effort, measure results, and iterate. Areas of interest:

• Chat activity
• Voice activity
• Reaction rates
• Community involvement
• Support requests
• Prosocial behavior

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy new features and functionality for our Discord-based platform
• Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and designers to identify and prioritize areas of improvement
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code that meets performance and scalability requirements
• Ensure the reliability and stability of our services by monitoring and troubleshooting issues as they arise
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and learning
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in Discord development and related technologies
• Use Discord as a tool to measure and enhance prosocial and collaborative behavior within our communities
• Collaborate with data analysts and community managers to identify and analyze key metrics related to prosocial and collaborative behavior on our platform
• Develop features and tools that encourage and reward positive behavior within our communities
• Work with other teams to design and implement initiatives that promote a culture of collaboration and positive engagement on our platform

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 3+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on Discord development
• Experience with Discord API, Discord.js, or other related technologies
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, and related frameworks
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Adventures In Breath (AiB): Breath is elemental and vital to health and wellbeing. Working with partners, academics and clinicians, we have studied the “sci of breath” and are building Adventures In Breath: an ecosystem of breath based games that use breath as a game mechanic. What is a breath based game mechanic? A game mechanic where you use your breath to interact/move in the game. Each breath ritual ties to a scientifically validated breath therapeutic, and is expressed within the game through interactivity mechanics and responsive design. AiB playifies/gamifies breath therapeutics in immersive game narratives.

• Karma The Six Realm Game: Gamify-ing prosociality! The 6 realms can be understood as forms of existence, or states of mind, into which beings are born according to their karma. The realms can be viewed as situations in life or even personality types. Not everyone goes through the six realms the Same Way. The Journey through the six realms is a Journey through the mind. Game play begins in the “ladder”, where our simple micro game calculates your score based on self interest and prosocial scenarios. This score determines which of the 6 realms a player is born into. In each realm, a player explores game play (cause and effect) through prosocial game mechanics.
