About the job

Location: Remote
Industry: Film, Media, Entertainment

Welcome to FilmUp! Thank you for considering joining our dynamic team. At FilmUp, we are redefining how the entertainment industry operates through cutting-edge technology. As a Lead Full Stack Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our product, working closely with founders, engineers, and industry partners to bring our platform to life.

About the Role:

The FilmUp Platform has been under careful development over the past 24 months, and we’re now ready to move into the next phase: engineering and scaling it to meet the needs of the film industry. We’re looking for an experienced, talented, and collaborative Full Stack Engineer with a strong background in both technology development and the film industry to lead our development efforts. As part of the leadership team, you'll have a direct hand in the architecture, development, and strategic direction of the platform, making it a foundational role that goes beyond typical engineering work.

In this role, you will work alongside the founders and our technology partners to bring our innovative platform to life, with a focus on scalability, performance, and user experience. You will also be responsible for driving best practices, developing new features, and ensuring that FilmUp continues to grow and evolve as we expand our client base in the film and media space.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with development teams in New York and Los Angeles, and collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable features.
Architect and Develop New Features: Lead the design and implementation of new platform functionality to support a growing and diverse user base.
Ensure Platform Scalability and Performance: Take ownership of the platform’s architecture, including web, mobile, and API layers, ensuring that it scales efficiently as our user base grows.
Work on Full-Stack Development: Contribute across the entire stack (frontend, backend, and infrastructure) as needed, depending on the priorities of the team.
Code Quality and Process Management: Help define and implement processes for code management, version control, testing, deployment, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Lead by Example: Serve as a technical leader within the team, guiding best practices and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Industry Experience: A strong background in film, media, or entertainment with an understanding of the specific challenges and needs of the industry.
B2B Experience: Previous experience building and maintaining enterprise-level B2B solutions or working with high-volume web applications.
Technical Expertise: At least 5 years of hands-on experience developing consumer-facing web applications, services, and/or APIs in a professional environment.
Proficient in Laravel: Solid experience working with Laravel (or similar modern PHP frameworks) for backend development, along with proficiency in the MVC architecture.
JavaScript Expertise: Deep experience with JavaScript and working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.
Backend Development: Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or similar frameworks, and experience in building scalable, performant backend services.
Web Technologies: Strong foundation in web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, and HTTP/SSL.
Database Expertise: In-depth knowledge of relational databases, especially PostgreSQL (or MySQL/SQL Server).
Version Control: Proficient in using Git for version control and collaboration.
Testing and Debugging: Familiar with testing, profiling, and debugging best practices to ensure code quality and reliability.
Flexible Full-Stack Developer: While you may have a preference for front-end or back-end development, you are comfortable working across the full stack to address needs as they arise.
Bonus Points If You:

Have experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Are familiar with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
Have worked on high-traffic, high-availability systems.
Are passionate about agile development and have experience with Scrum or other agile methodologies.
Have experience building and maintaining applications in media production, content distribution, or digital asset management.
