CATALOG is a start-up in Boston working towards building the world's first storage and compute platform utilizing DNA. We are seeking motivated Software Engineers that are excited to participate in ground breaking work. Some remote work is acceptable; must be within commuting distance of CATALOG HQ.

Software Engineer (R&D)

This position entails working on the DNA encoding, decoding, and computation pipelines in close collaboration with research, chemistry, and hardware engineering teams. In this role, you will help build high performance software that implements the CATALOG stack. You will help implement modules that scale to billions of operations per second. You will work closely with the computer scientists, software developers, automation engineers, synthetic biologists, and end users to understand requirements and build a versatile stack. You will implement data structures and algorithms central to mapping bits to DNA, reading them back, and operating on them in vitro. You will test and maintain our core read, write, and compute, pipelines. We are looking for someone who enjoys building, validating, and maintaining complex low-level systems that manipulate bits and molecules. We prefer someone with background and experience in some of the following areas:

Requirements:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics
  • Deep background in algorithm and data structure design
  • 1-2 years of software development experience preferred
  • Experience in programming with Python and C/C++, Linux environment and tools, API design, automated testing
  • Experience using git, PostgreSQL, gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, and CUDA/GPUs are all pluses
  • Application domain experience in scientific computing, search, optimization, signal processing, machine learning is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Located within commuting distance of CATALOG HQ in Boston MA
