Your Role
The Application Management team is responsible for engineering, operations, and maintenance of Blue Shield’s application infrastructure hosting mission-critical and business-essential enterprise applications and associated components. The DevOps Engineer, Senior will report to the Senior Manager. In this role you will assure increasingly reliable and efficient management of application infrastructure and the related business applications. Operational duties include writing and maintaining infrastructure code to assist with daily maintenance and monitoring to assure application infrastructure availability, performance, and capacity; responding to and resolving incidents; engineering and implementation of applications, middleware, and/or operating system changes; and maintaining associated standards and operational procedure documentation.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
• Focus on optimizing core business environments availability and performance
• Provide engineering input on design and build specifications of proposed new application infrastructure
• Develop and maintain written procedures, engineering drawings and other technical documentation for accuracy of operational capabilities and knowledge across the team
• Ensure system maintenance activities are routinely executed to remain compliant with standards, infrastructure currency policies and to prevent system problems
• Coordinate and perform lifecycle and preventative maintenance of application infrastructure and related components including administrative tools
• Design and develop automation capabilities to reduce or eliminate manual tasks related to service delivery, operations, and maintenance
• Communicate with engineers and managers within and outside the infrastructure services organization, with the ability to educate others on complex disciplines
• Ensure system incidents and problems are properly identified and effectively resolved in accordance with policy and service-level agreements.
• Work independently with limited supervision
• Participate in rotational 24x7 on-call schedule
Your Knowledge and Experience
• Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Requires at least 5 years of relevant experience
• Requires experience in automating builds, deployments, and configuration of environments using various scripting languages and orchestration technologies; PowerShell, ANT, Jython, Python, InstallShield, SCCM, etc.
• Requires excellent interpersonal, verbal, organization, and documentation skills
• Requires application support experience on Microsoft Windows and basic knowledge of Linux server platform
• Desired experience using automated configuration management tools and processes (i.e., Puppet, Ansible, Chef)
• Desired working knowledge of infrastructure management tools, i.e., VMWare vSphere, Citrix, Splunk, AppDynamics
