About Applause
There’s a reason why “struggling artist” is a well-known term. At Applause, we’re changing that. Spurred by the devastation wrought by the pandemic, we’re building a new medium for creators and fans to foster a long-term community through highly gamified, live, two-way interaction. Applause empowers creators and their fans to have more fun and connect more deeply than ever before; as a result, creators make far more money than on any other platform.
We only recently launched but thousands of fans have already taken part in events on Applause -- events that have brought tears of joy to the eyes of fans and smiles to the faces of musicians, comedians and other creators alike.
Our mission is to empower creators and fans to thrive through a deep and direct connection with one another, both during the pandemic and far beyond.
About This Role
As Applause’s Lead Product Designer, you’ll be the primary person responsible for bringing the vision of Applause to life in a simple and delightful way. Your goal will be to make Applause the most easy, fun, and highly monetized experience for creators and fans to connect with each other in a deep and direct way. In doing so, you’ll have the opportunity to work with and learn from our embedded Design Advisor, a seasoned and highly respected product design veteran. This is a fully remote position.
You’ll:
- Drive the end-to-end design process - from creator and fan discovery all the way to high fidelity deliverables for rollout.
- Work with our CEO and leadership team to evolve Applause’s vision, strategy and long-term roadmap
- Maintain a holistic view of the user journey to identify gaps and opportunities through a user-centered lens
- Use various research methods to uncover insights about creators and fans and communicate them in a compelling way
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ideate, test hypotheses, and iterate on experiences that not only meet the needs of our creators and fans but make them laugh (and cry)
- Work with our engineering team to ensure your designs are executed and implemented in a way that realizes your vision
- Establish what “Product Design” at Applause means, creating best practices and a communication ethos that clearly articulates our product design strategy, generates empathy for our users across the team, and empowers the entire company
Some Interesting Challenges You'll Work On
- How can creators best engage with fans live while minimizing distraction from their core goal of putting on an amazing performance?
- How can an artist engage with their fans before and after an event to maximize their fans’ enjoyment and fun?
- How can we reimagine the way for fans to discover new artists they'll love?
- How can we bring the most effective learnings from social gaming to bear to maximize monetization for artists in a simple, elegant and non-kitschy way?
Who’ll Excel In This Role
You’ll excel in this role if you:
- Have 5+ years of experience as a product designer in the social / consumer space
- Are eager to fully own the design of a new type of experience
- Are highly creative, with experience working on products and experiences that haven’t existed before
- Launched a new product that successfully achieved product / market fit
- Previously worked at a combination of fast-paced, high-growth startups and larger technology companies
- Are able to leverage data to make informed product design decisions
- Are self-motivated, with a willingness to dive in and fill in the gaps when needed
You’ll be even more successful if you:
- Have a passion for music, live entertainment, and/or gaming
