Location and schedule

Anywhere - This internship is remote and has always been remote. (We have experience doing it this way!) Even after other restrictions are lifted, we will still be remote.

This is a remote position with flexible hours (5-20 per week), based on your availability. These positions start in June and continue through the end of August, with potential to continue into the fall.

Company Mission

Seedsprint is a collaboration platform that helps emerging technology teams and industry partners find each other easily – like a dating site for technology and industry. On seedsprint, university patent licensing departments and deep-tech startups publish profiles and message back and forth with innovation teams at established corporations. seedsprint is the first application of its kind that is completely free of charge for startups, universities, labs, and technology incubators. Our community is growing, and we are excited to expand our team.

Job Description

We’re looking for science majors and startup enthusiasts who are interested in learning about technology transfer and commercialization – the process of getting scientific inventions from the lab to the market. You will find out about and make connections with fast-growing startups, while learning how innovation moves between universities, startups, and large firms.

STAR work involves research on deep-tech startups, research organizations, incubators, and industry R&D leaders. The work centers around online research to identify and build profiles for such organizations. STARs will also spend time working through spreadsheets to clean and manage the associated data, often manipulating between formats for various data sources and end uses.

Depending on our workload, STARs may specialize in a particular type of research, such as identifying technology hubs, extracting contact information, categorizing companies, or identifying technology scouts. Other activities may include writing for our blog, representing seedsprint at academic-industry partnership events, as well as introducing startup and research faculty to our platform. Heavily involved STARs may also be able to contribute to some elements of company strategy and learn advanced Excel or basic Python programming.
Training is provided, and STARs will learn on the job.

About You

You are:
Curious about science and are interested in the business side of technology.
Excited by seedsprint’s work to accelerate innovation.

Able to set your own goals and thrive in entrepreneurial environments.
Working towards a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a STEM discipline OR a graduate student with advanced understanding of topics.
Familiar with technical literature (articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals or patents).
An excellent applicant will have experience with, or is interested in learning about some of the following:
Intermediate Excel skills (comfortable with functions)
Open innovation and other theories of technological progress
Small business organization, life cycle, and growth
Basic programming concepts (functions, control structures, objects, data types, etc.)
Foreign language experience (Korean proficiency is most desirable, but any are relevant as we work with companies across the globe)

Salary

Part-time - 20 hours per week cap
$12-20/hour
