Freelance Managing Editor

Prose Media is a fast-growing content marketing agency for leading brands. We're looking for editors who are resourceful, self-motivated, flexible, and tech-savvy to assist with projects on a remote freelance basis.

As a freelance managing editor, you will source and vet writers, matching editorial projects (e.g., blog posts, white papers) with subject matter experts — either from within our network or by searching sites like LinkedIn. You should have a keen eye for assessing editorial talent and a knack for solving problems independently.

Depending on your skill set and interests, as well as our own current needs, additional duties may include the following:

• Project management: Oversee an efficient editorial workflow, juggling multiple rapid-fire content projects at once while maintaining strict organization and a sense of calm. You should be highly proficient with email and basic online tools.

• Editing: Edit (and occasionally rewrite) compelling custom content (e.g., articles, case studies, web copy) for client brands. You should be a strong editor, obsessed with crafting and refining clean copy under tight deadlines.

• Account / Client management: Interact professionally with clients via phone and/or email; conduct briefing calls, interviews, and check-in calls; handle revision requests; and advise on content strategy.

• Writer management: Onboard writers and assign projects; help ensure deadlines are met; communicate editorial guidelines and ensure compliance; and consult with writers as needed throughout the process.

You should be able to work with a high degree of autonomy, adept at tackling tasks and problems head-on without formal instructions -- and without losing your cool. As a bootstrapped startup, a highly flexible and resourceful mindset is crucial.

Sometimes our needs are project-based (ad-hoc); other times, our needs are more ongoing. As a remote freelance contractor, you would fully determine your own hours, rates, and preferred working methods.

Pay is hourly. Please be sure to indicate your desired hourly rate (or range).
