We are hiring a member of the Brave Research team to work on a range of applied cryptography projects at Brave. Our goal is to improve the security of Brave and the BAT ecosystem, as well as the privacy, and anonymity of Brave end-users through a combination of cryptography-based tools.
As a Cryptography Researcher at Brave, your responsibilities will include:
- Design and implement cryptographic protocols to provide security, privacy and accountability for users of the Brave ecosystem
- Help Brave to design and develop a secure and private DEX and crypto swaps protocols that integrate seamlessly in the browser
- Develop ways to prevent client-side fraud through cryptography
- Develop novel ways to allow extensions to run without compromising user privacy and security
- Develop novel ways to provide client-side integrity
- Keep abreast of various browser security standards and initiatives with focus on cryptography scheme such as Privacy Pass, Trust Tokens, PAKE protocol, etc
Required qualifications:
- Have familiarity with blockchain technologies
- Be comfortable diving into unfamiliar and complex codebases.
- Proficiency in at least one low-level or systems programming language such as C++, Rust, Go. At least 3-5 years of practical work experience is necessary
- Experience shipping to production cryptographic protocol or primitives
- Proficiency working with Git
- Comfortable working with a geographically-distributed software development team.
Preferred qualifications:
- Solid theoretical and practical understanding of zero knowledge schemes.
- Experience contributing to open source codebases and/or participating in open source communities. Virtually all of our work at Brave is done in the open on Github.
- Familiarity with Chromium's architecture.
- Experience auditing C++, Rust or Go code for security and privacy issues.
- Experience and willingness to publish high quality research work.
- Ability to write clear technical documentation.
- Be excited about security, privacy, anonymity, and censorship resistance!
This is a full-time or part-time role, reporting to Brave's Chief Scientist. A Ph.D. is strongly encouraged, but not always required for this role. Desire and demonstrated ability to publish in top-tier academic conferences and journals is a major plus.
