Culture overview

Our team has over a decade of experience building startups in the industrial space. We've learned how challenging it is to build hardware and run production operations, but our commitment to each other and our mission gives us the strength to overcome every obstacle that has come our way. We believe that the best people for the job are located all over the world, which is why we are a remote-first company. Properly designed remote work can be more productive than an on-site office, with its long commute times, endless distractions, and low flexibility. To maximize productivity, we designed our culture and organizational systems to minimize time sinks such as standing meetings (just one a week), and we try to create asynchronous work whenever possible. We try to turn most meetings into emails or Slack messages :-) Our management philosophy is centered around working together as a team to set clear, realistic, and measurable goals, and then to empower those closest to the action with the freedom and resources to figure out how best to achieve them. We keep our full-time core team quite senior and give everyone a lot of responsibility and space to voice their ideas and concerns. We also value transparency in our plans, documents, and communications in general. As a remote-first company, we are able to quickly bring in freelancers, agencies, etc. to magnify the impact of our core team, and we have many ongoing relationships that our team makes ample use of. We believe in giving our team the opportunity to learn and grow through challenging projects, even those outside of their comfort zone. We provide support and structure while also providing space for creativity and making mistakes, as we believe that's how true learning happens.

We fly everyone together at least twice a year (usually to the SF Bay Area) to have an all hands retreat that is a mix of work and casual hangout.
