In 2013 Ben Furber was doing something that he loved, putting gifts together and he saw the extraordinary potential in building a service that allowed everyone to build gifts that people remember. From that starting point he fairly quickly came to the realisation that not everyone has the creativity, product knowledge or interest to put the same amount of time and thought into gifts that he did. It isn’t that they don’t love or care for their friends and family any less, it’s just that people are too time poor and perhaps lack the creativity required to build something truly special. Ben also noticed that givers often spend a lot of time searching for gifts and are rarely confident in their ability to surprise and delight the recipient. This is particularly true for gifts given outside of a giver’s own age and gender bracket. They need a hand. He tested an idea for a personalised gift buyer service, first with his friends and family, then as word got out for others. Within a year he had completed nearly 50 orders from the living room of his small rented one bed flat in West London. Pitching his idea to take his personalised gifting service online to early stage E-commerce investors, Forward Partners, Ben secured £250,000 in seed funding and access to a team of dedicated professionals working across the design, product, technology, marketing and talent functions. In August 2015 The Gifting Co. was born and using the expertise at Forward Partners Ben has launched a prototype, generated a steady stream of customers and has proven that a market exists for his service.
