Help us build the Netflix for your ears. I have always loved long-form narrative audio, starting with the radio when I was a kid and then podcasts during my university years. I always wondered why most people did not listen to podcasts and was very happy when in 2014 there was a sudden boom in podcasting in the US and the format finally hit the mainstream. Everyone talks now about the renaissance of podcasting and I was hoping that someone would finally come up with a solution to the three inherent problems that this medium has. Last year I witnessed how several companies entered the podcasting arena trying to solve these three problems but making them worse, and then I told myself something that has gotten a lot of people in a lot of trouble: “I could do this better”. I am very influenced by Peter Thiel’s book Zero to one, so I asked myself his contrarian question: What valuable company is no one building? Our contrarian answer is that by trying to fix podcasting, all these new companies are actually making it worse. What narrative audio needs is a new format, created from scratch to feel like it is 2016 and not an improved version of 2004. With that in mind, we set up to invent a new medium that solves the puzzle of narrative audio for the internet. We are a team of four engineers who are building the whole platform without external help. We plan to launch our beta at the end of the year, and in early 2016 we plan to raise our angel round, once we can show some product-market fit. The next step is to raise series A at the end of next year. In between those two rounds we would like to start hiring a community manager and possibly some tech help.
