In 2014 I founded STec Technology, an innovative company dedicated to the development, design and engineering of clean energy solutions for the marine industry. The team at STec has a long track record and is highly regarded in the industry, having built over 500 semi-custom diesel-powered boats and exhaust systems valued at $170 million and delivered worldwide since 1975 under the name Shannon Boat Company. Nitrogen oxides are odorless colorless products of internal combustion engines and the chief culprit in serious human health issues with over 3 million deaths (pre-Covid-19 pandemic stats: World Health Org) reported from resultant respiratory issues. Nitrogen oxide from the exhaust of diesel engines is a greenhouse gas that threatens our health, climate and ecosystems; it is 300 times worse than CO2, and yet the scale of the problem remains largely unknown outside scientific circles. The International Maritime Organization has enacted new global regulations mandating vessels, recreational and commercial under 300', reduce their NOX emissions by 80% beginning January 1, 2021. There are approximately 4 million diesel-powered boats in the world less than 200' long, with no viable system to reduce NOx from the exhaust of their engines and generators. We have spent the last 2 years engineering a safe, economical and wholly new exhaust treatment system (STec RCI) for new boats and existing boats under 300' long that reduces NOx by 90%, makes these vessels IMO regulation-compliant AND reduce toxic emissions by millions of tons annually. International patents have been approved for the RCI system for new and existing vessels of every size. The public outcry over climate change, especially outside the US, has set the clock ticking for fuel burning, greenhouse gas-emitting boats. STec RCI technology will reverse the massive environmental impact of pollution brought about by seagoing vessels and lead the way to a greener marine future.
