South 8 Technologies careers

Energy storage devices, such as batteries, are ubiquitous in society today from electronics to grid storage. In transportation applications, energy density and low temperature performance are two key metrics which state-of-art-batteries have significant difficulty meeting. Currently, the primary solution is to use thermal insulation to keep on-board batteries warm, which adds to the mass, costs and engineering challenges. South 8 Technologies aims to develop and commercialize a novel electrolyte chemistry, comprised of “Liquefied Gas Solvents”, studied at UC San Diego which has demonstrated substantial increase in energy density while significantly improving the low temperature performance. South 8 Technologies plans to prove the technology and develop manufacturing processes focusing on niche high-atmosphere markets (e.g. drones) that will leverage the excellent low-temperature performance of these devices, while being introduced into the larger vehicle markets (e.g. automobiles).
