Sonmit is a social enterprise that is supporting charities working on various aspects of cancer care by developing a powerful search engine providing fast and accurate search results. It generates revenue from advertisements and donates 80% of its profit. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020, there were 10 million cancer-related deaths worldwide. The WHO projects that, by 2035, the world could see 24 million new cancer cases and 14.5 million cancer-related deaths a year of which 69% could be in low- and middle-income countries. There is a need to invest more heavily in cancer care, particularly in research, treatment, and care to save the lives of close to 15 million people by 2035. However, cancer charities and research organizations do not have enough funds to accelerate the fight against cancer. The funding has been reduced after COVID-19 severely affecting the fight against cancer. Sonmit is attempting to solve the issue of ‘lack of funding’ faced by charities all over the world. Due to the lack of funding to charities, several lakhs of cancer patients in developing countries do not receive on-time treatment or medicine and important research studies remain pending.
