Skycom's High Altitude Lighter Than Air Platforms (HALTAPs) will create low-cost cell towers in the sky, slashing mobile service providers’ cost of doing business and allowing rapid expansion into new markets.

HALTAPs are geostationary airships that float above 60,000 ft altitude to create a high-speed wireless network in the sky. The patent-pending technology at the core of our HALTAP design revolutionizes the lighter than air industry, and will allow us to achieve what other technologies can't: the first affordable, long endurance telecom platforms in the stratosphere.

The primary barrier to long-duration flight of lighter-than-air aircraft in the stratosphere has been lifting gas loss. Most solutions either work with these short flight times (e.g. Project Loon), or combat leakage with heavy, expensive, and impractically huge envelopes (e.g. Lockheed Martin's HALE-D). Skycom's elegant solution will facilitate unprecedented flight times, while keeping costs extremely low.
