People consume up to 9 kg of chocolate per year. Everyone is craving chocolate.
To satisfy this craving, around 5M tonnes of cocoa have to be produced per year.
Yet, this comes at a price for the planet and population: millions of hectares of
rainforest were cut down for cocoa plantations during the last decade.
Founded in 2021 by scientists Dr. Max Marquart and Dr. Sara Marquart, QOA
solves this by producing the world's first 100% cocoa-free chocolate. Instead of
cocoa, QOA uses byproducts of the food industry (e.g. from oat or cereal
production) that are fermented with special microorganisms and are then carefully
roasted. Using proprietary micro bacteria and flavor formation processes, QOA is
able to mimic the characteristic flavor profile and texture of chocolate. In effect,
