At Perch, we’re breaking the chicken and egg cycle of building credit. How exactly? Traditional financial institutions present many low and middle income individuals with a frustrating issue: To start building credit with traditional financial institutions, you usually take out loans or begin paying off a credit card. But to qualify for a loan or a credit card, you need to have good credit— it’s a huge Catch 22 that’s preventing the underbanked from cultivating their financial health. We believe that everyone deserves access to building credit. Perch allows people to build their credit by reporting their recurring payments, such as their rent payments or subscriptions (think: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Blue Apron, etc.), to all three major credit bureaus. In doing so, people can use their everyday life expenses to prove their creditworthiness and begin building credit. We’re a tight-knit group of college-grads who believe that a bit of grit, tenacity, and empathy can make huge waves. Mike, our CEO, founded this company when he found himself in the same predicament 3 years ago when he was trying to take out loans to pay for USC’s tuition. At Perch, we understand the complex and predatory relationship traditional banks have had with low-income, marginalized communities and aim to financially empower those who have been underserved and historically barred from these financial institutions. We have a personal dedication to granting credit-building pathways to these communities, especially considering Perch was founded from our CEO’s pursuit to address these same hardships.
